I am a brand new and very noob owner of a new 2003 Skyline V35 GT350 coupe, which I just picked up from a depot where it was shipped by a dealer from NSW to WA.

Put a CD in it and it immediately jammed. The expensive jam it seems, based on info from these forums. But that's just me venting.

I have a few questions that I am having trouble answering properly by reading the forums.

1. The dealer I bought the car from explained to me that the radio can not pick up radio signals above a certain frequency, and that he added in a device, or software that makes it possible to still listen to your radio stations, but they are displayed at different frequencies than normal. For example 96.1 is now 76.1. However, it is only picking up 2 FM stations and about 3 AM stations. Has he really installed that device? Or is my antenna not strong enough? With my CD player immediately out of action, I would at least like to be able to listen to my choice of radio stations.

2. The Navigation system I understand is incompatible entirely with Australian maps. But can the DVD player, be made to actually play DVD movies? Or can the player be replaced with one that can?

3. Am I correct in understanding that there is now a TV tuner that will pick up Australian TV stations? All the threads say it is impossible, but recently there was one that says it is.

4. I have emailed my local Xanavi Japanese to English trip computer translator installer, and will be getting the software for that. But can any of you tell me what kind of price I am looking at for converting it to English? Also, are there English button stickers that can replace the Japanese ones for the computer?

I really appreciate any help I can get.

Welcome.

I can't answer everything, but here's a start.

1. I would think you should be able pick up most stations if the band expander was installed correctly. Maybe the antenna got partially disconnected from the back of your head unit....

2. No, it can't play DVDs but it needs to stay connected if you want the other screen functions to work.

3. I have TV tuners available that connect into your OEM one in the boot. See my sig for details. These have an extra AV input to run a DVD player if you like.

4. It should be around $300. Stickers come up on Ebay every now & then, but the Jap buttons grow on you after a while  .

Cheers, Leon.

Thanks that is all helpful. Can you explain what an OEM in my boot is though lol. Told you I was noob. And I assume the DVD player would be an extra and separate one?

The original (OEM) TV tuner that is used in Japan. is stored underneath the false floor in your boot, on the left hand side i believe :)

^ correct and that is where the aux is for the video and audio are for the screen and bose. I have the ebay stickers on my car for 2.5yrs now and they still havent peeled off.

You can also get a video block option for the english conversion if you want to run a gps

I think the best solution for audio is to just rip the OEM head unit out get a face kit and put ur own double din GPS/DVD player in and hook it up the the TV tuner and have it playing DVD's on the OEM screen and GPS off the head unit, i have a thread about the build i had installed if you do a search im sure it will come up for you. I think i paid around $200 for the unit to be convirted to english. doing that pre much solves all your issues in 1 go besides the TV tuner not picking up aus stations but TV is crap anyways watch DVDs and the tv shows u want to add free
