Hi all,

Ive been searching for more power from my r33 with basic mods such as 3” exhaust, fmic, pod etc. My Tuner has recommended the ViPEC ECU with a tune plus the needed upgrade of a new fuel pump which is old and warn. Plus a boost increase from 0.7bar – 0.9bar.

The quote was for around 3.5k I just want more power out of my car, I know im not going to go get bigger injectors or a bigger turbo is this really worth it – will I notice? Is it reliable? What kind of power will I expect (kw/HP)?

Is that including the ViPEC and the fuel pump? If so, that's not a bad price. You might be able to go a bit cheaper if you sourced the parts from elsewhere. Or you could try to find a secondhand Power FC from somewhere, but I've always preferred to use whatever ECU my tuner recommends.

You will notice a difference though, it's definitely worth it.

Yeah mate that price is every thing fuel pump, ecu, tune & installation.

But before i shell out 3.5k i just wanted to know will the power be noticeable enough to justify the price/ make me a happy man haha

Well that depends on your expectations.

My ECU is still one of my favourite mods that I've done to my car, simply because of the difference it made to driveablity and my fuel economy. It may not give you another 100rwhp, but it gives you a bit more (especially if you're increasing the boost a bit) and it makes what you already have feel a lot better to drive.

If you arent going to be upgrading the turbo/injectors in the future, i wouldnt bother spending all that money just for the sake of a few rwkw and a better top end curve. On the other hand the vipec v44 is a good ecu and has some cool racing features (anti lag, launch control, flat shift).

Great Ecu (LINK G4 as its also known by the original manufacturer) it will allow scope for any mods in the future, if your not going all out it would be a wiser investment to buy a PFC as you will save about 1500 yet make the same power and have the same driveability.

Even the new adaptronic plug in select ecu would be a good investment for basic mods.

As you have a Neo engine you could get a Nistune chip and get much the same results. You will not really get the benefits of the Vipec over the Nistune if you are not planning to upgrade the turbo etc. You should probably still get a new fuel pump as an insurance against failure.

you can pick up a Second hand PFC for around 1000$..but before you do anything just replace your fuel pump (and filter if its old) and maybe get your injectors cleaned, this alone can make a huge difference, especially if your old ones are shagged..

Unless you got money to burn I wouldnt bother with that Vipec mate

I disagree.. Go an pay to get the vipec and the fuel pump... Dont go half assed about shit an get a nistune, Pfc, safc etc... Vipec is one of the best ecu's on the market..

Because in the end you end up wanting more, then you'll start changing this, then changing that.. Take my advice an buy the vipec ecu, you cant go wrong...

did the quote come with a price break-down? ie, what the ecu component is worth?

you might find getting a Link G4 from NZ is cheaper than the aussie G4

but definitely have a look in the for sale section for second hand PFC's

Sorry must have dreamed the bit about the GTT

Still think Nistune with an appropriate ecu swap is the best value for the OP but Link from NZ is NZ$1895 so even with a temp sensor and postage it will be well under $2K
