Help Plz R34 Gtr Vspec

Recommended Posts

hi guys just found a set of r33 gtr vspec turbos for $500 but will take $340 tonight on had 60000km on them what you think as a trial

No good mate, all the stockers are no fun. They break easy and cost an arm and a leg to install, so you are likely to be doing the job twice if you get em.

-9s are better than -7s, you should buy a pair of -9s off a one of the forum sponsors then get em fitted. You will need an ecu yes, powerfc or nistune are good for your application.

Without changing the injectors or AFMs the -9s will get you a tidy 280kw. With injectors and ecu (a lot of money later) you will get 300-330kw.

This is bullshit...they should be covered by the warranty...wear and tear is items like brake pads and tyres...not friggen turbos. Speak to the MTA in NSW and see how you go from there....

Does the car have a boost controller etc. Chase this warranty up before you spend any money.

You might want to invest in purchasing some full stops, because your post is quite difficult to read.

There is plenty of people using cam gears and getting good results. As Nismoid would say... Search.

You should be investing in a tunable ecu and a re-tune first though, as the -7's will flow better than stock so the tune will now be out considerably. Optimise what you have first, and tune it so its safe. Then look at Terry's list and start shopping.

Good choice man, but please dont drive the car hard until you get an aftermarket ecu tune. Cam gears get great results as most people who have them will attest but when you do them, do the timing belt too. It saves on labor and although it says to change at 100k, rubber does corrode and crack over time so for piece of mind, do that too.

...as in Post #23

Those Tomei drop-in cams 'n gears helped to put more area beneath the power curve = much less lag = more bottom end power

I can't stress enough how much a good tuner will get the best out of your car.

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
