Hi everyone,

i rotated my tyres yesterday and found that my front cv shaft boots are split on both sides. after research and a few phone calls this is what i found out:

Pedders Suspension:

replace both drive shafts and boots: $600.00 (labour included)

Just Jap:

selling refurbish drive shafts with new boots: $600.00 (postage and labour NOT included)

Well known work shop:

replace boots only: $600.00 (if need new drive shaft will cost even more)

Question: has anyone got things done from Pedders? whats their rep like and are their parts any good?

What do you experts reckon i should do? just get boots done and hope that shafts are ok, or get shafts done at the same time while everything is out?

Depends if they are using the crappy universal fit boots like a workshop I was taking mine to were, they lasted less than 12 months each time. Got it done twice. So I pulled the front shafts out and took them to a C.V workshop here is Brisbane and paid $150ea shaft to have the completely rebuilt with new joints, boots etc....have been great ever since. If the boots haven't been split long and haven't lost a lot of grease and gotten a heap of shit in there you might be ok to just get new boots put on. But stuff the $600 just for boots to be replaced. But that price for refurbished shafts installed isn't too bad. As long as they are descent shafts that haven't had crappy chinese joints or rebuilt cv joints used.

The suspension chain whose name starts with a P is a swear word where I come from. So I would recommend taking your car to the zoo and getting the chimpanzees to work on it before I'd suggest you take it to them.

Do as suggested above. Take them out yourself. Take them to a reputable CV/Driveshaft business (if you were in Adelaide I could point you at a couple) and get them rebuilt properly at a sensible price. Then take home and refit. Easy.

honestly i think the chimpanzees would be a better mechanic than me, when it comes to stuff like this i have no idea. only thing i can do myself is a minor service plus no tools to even do jobs like this. ended up sourceing new shafts myself and had those fitted by a trusted mechanic.
