does it matter if its legal or not? why bother installing an anti-lag system unless its a track/rally dedicated car??

..it aint gunna get you to westfield any quicker.

You signed up onto SAU to ask whether shooting 1m flames from your exhaust at a set of traffic lights is illegal.....hmmm let me think....

Jokes aside, ive always wondered how antilag works. Very interesting read on wikipedia, like how the restrictors they use create more lag then a normal sports car so the turbo needs to be going stronger before they put the foot down.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antilag_system

on the street would be useful if you had a larger turbine and wanted to go on a spirited drive, although its probably very illegal and probably harsh on your powertrain.

I would think the exhaust with mufflers and cat converter would be blown out in a few minutes on the street.

definitely belongs in motorsport though.

Its not stress on the drivetrain you need to worry about.

Its stress on the motor/turbo. That's where the issue is. You'll be replacing turbos quite often if its used even semi-regularly.

thats what i meen,he would be burning through exhaust valves quicker then the turbo though.

I setup antilag on the Vipec for shits and giggles (it's not 100% setup as I'm not that keen on it). Definetely not good for your car though.

You sure Evos have it from factory? What models? I've never heard that before that's all.

You mean proper antilag for between gear changes or just launch control antilag? (I wrote up a post in the past explaining all the different things people refer antilag to but can't be bothered finding it).

Evos do not have antilag from factory.... I used to have one and two of my good mates have them

some of them do. it is a pretty watered down system though. also in some cases it is disabled in the ecu. basically it is put on there as a provision to get around certain homogolation regulations in certian rally classes (group N i think). so basically some of them have all the gear, but it isn't turned on. not sure what models do and don't, but all i know is that the info above generally applies to the evo 3

Most evo's have the "missfiring system" from the factory, it is something that can be turned on in the ECU ( many of the evo ECU's are factory flashable)

You can see the pipework in an OEM engine bay !

However many owners can and do remove it, because for most people having it is irrelevant.

    • What are your plans for your blow off valves? Purely plumb back? How soft will the spring in them be? AFM can be tricky to get super smooth and nice, especially depending on the rest of the system, and then can be very easily upset if something slightly changes. IE, even if you run recirc blow off valves, you could still see issues getting it to behave at certain load points as turbos might start to spool, but you release the throttle but it's not enough pressure to crack the bov open to recirc, and you can end up with reversion which can cause double metering, and hence dumping of fuel into the system, and stalling the engine.   If you're going to run a map sensor for closed loop boost control from the ECU, what makes you want to keep the AFM?
    • It's not bad, it's just not flexible. And say if you have any leaks between the MAF and plenum, well then your load axis goes out the window. Here's a real world scenario, I blew off an intercooler hose last track day, as the clamp decided to Bluetooth itself somewhere. Still continued to do 2 laps and drive it to the pub for a couple of beers then home. Good luck doing that with a MAF setup
    • Is MAF load really that bad? I'm not trying to do big power, my only real desire is VCAM and flex fuel support so I'm not terrified of blowing my engine apart from CA's appalling 95 RON "premium" fuel. Stuff like playing with closed loop boost control and really dialing in my transient fueling and ignition are frankly just to prove to myself I remembered something from uni.
    • Thats what ive been doing. Ive got a million questions but i know theyve probably all been answered before at some stage. Todays research included nismo heritage seat covers, s3 projector headlight retrofits and how to remove/paint the rocker covers
