hey guys . looking at insurance. and called shannons/just car.

shannons agreed to the value i wanted but to expensive. but i had an argument with just car.

i asked.. if i list the mods on my car and arent approved by vicroads (aftermarket computer, injectors, cam gears) whatever. will just car cover it?

they said no!

but i said.. you have mods listed on your quote page to choose from, and if i do the right thing and list the mods the car has then you wont cover the car anyway?

he said "if there not approved by vicroads we wont cover the car"

but then why the f do they have these options? and if they are elligal they shouldnt be insuring the car in the first place.

do you just hide everything or do the right thing?

whos everyone insuring there gtt/gtr's with?

Its pretty straight forward, if they're not approved they wont cover it, if it is they will.

The options are there because you can get approval for most things, its just difficult.

Aftermarket cam gears, ecu, injectors, etc all change the emissions of the car, so you'll probably have to undergo an emissions test to get it approved.

Also the ecu will need to be password protected by i think either the tuner or the engineer who approves it so that you cant play with it. (Effectively changing the emissions, so the car will no longer comply with the emissions test)

I'm not entirely sure on vicroads stuff but thats just a general guide

I'd be careful with just car, a fair few blokes havent been covered for ridiculous things. Eg remote entry was not attached to the keyring when keys were handed over to insurance. (stolen car)

I'll see if I can find some links...

ok so what do you do then? nearly every skyline owner has a computer, 2 air intake mods, bigger injectors etc. so do you hide it or do you claim you have it then get screwed anyway

im defintely not going just car, theyre fine when it comes to paying your premuim but as soon as you claim.. they look for any excuse

every insurance company will try to get out of paying (generally much more so if you are the one at fault).

the mods dont add value anyway

i have insured all my imports with just car

and the only reason you would list mods is if the car is damaged and needs to be repaired EG: front end repairable damage if you list that you have a front mount they will replace it, if it's damaged if you dont list it they will stick a sidemount back in your car.

you should list ecu and injectors as it's there to make the car more powerful therefore possibly higher insurance risk, but in any accident where the car is repairble those things won't be damaged anyway so no need to worry bout them

agreed value is the value of the car, you can added $50000 worth of engine parts to a $10000 grand car and it's still only gonna be insured for $10000 unless you tell them to insure it for more

i was able to insure my 200sx for $12000 that was the maximum they would do it for so any mods were just money wasted if / when the car was written off

Remember insurance companies arent charities.

they are a business.

also, if your mods arent approved by your local state/territory then it is illegal full stop. its the law. why should a company pay you out for something illegal?

if the mods contributed to the accident and were not approved - of course they have every right not to pay.

however if you have mods that arent approved, and someone runs up the back of you, the mods did not cause the accident so if an insurer then says we arent paying, that is wrong.

stig mick has it right - re:agreed value.

I have done the right thig and I got my car engineered. its covered with shannons.

but also, you pay for what you get - if shannons have agreed to cover you - regardless of cost, I know what Id be doing.

Be careful with just cars had a full bodykit listed on my insurance but then found out that they do not cover carbon fiber or fiberglass (half the car).. ended up being cheaper to not go through the insurance

Really??? I had an accident in my r33 full bodykit fiberglass front bar they replaced it with another fiberglass front bar

weevil is right. you complain that shannons is too expensive but that just car is cheap but with shit cover... just like most things you get what you pay for. you can have cheaper, less comprehensive cover or more expensive, better cover. now figure it out. shannons may cost a bit more but they actually give decent cover. In the last 8 years or so I've owned probably 20 cars or more. all insured with shannons from my R35 GTR to my S13 drifter. sadly for me some years ago one of my cars was stolen and not recovered. shannons were pretty good. they did investigate (and personally I'm glad they did as it shows diligence, if they just blindly pay out total loss claims premiums would shoot up for everyone) and once cleared they promptly paid. I can't really ask for more than that, they are careful but fair in my experience.

Its not the insurers responsibility to make sure your car is street legal, however if you listed mods and the accident is not your fault or the mods are not responsible for the accident you will be fine.

yeh just spoke to just car again and thats what they said, its funny how some people give you different answers.. if only shannons could raise the excess to reduce the premuim.. your saving a thousand dollars through just car

Yeah that's right. But if the accident is your fault then what's the point of having full comp if there going to look for excuses to not pay out.

I have been with just car for a couple of years now. Never had a problem with them. Had a claim when I wrote off my Mazda, claim went through with no problem. Will shop around when I turn 25 though.

This is the fact.

As an aside, I insure through Shannons. Thankfully I haven't had any claims, but people who I know whom have had to are mostly happy.

I used to sell many, many grey import cars, and I've heard a lot of horror stories re JC. I've not found them significantly cheaper in my experience either.

Keep in mind if you don't drive the car daily, premiums can be massively reduced.

My 34 GTR V-Spec agreed value @ $50k was only about $600-

See that would be all good and well if I could get insured by anyone other than just car. I have a 5 year no claims/ not at fault bonus. But I am under 25 and drive a high performance (and to top it off import) vehicle.

No one will touch my car except for just car. Ive had my previous car with them as well. Had a rear ending in my old car, called them up straight away with the driver at faults details. Happy days fixed it.

I don't think they are that bad too be honest. If you look at it, they are covered by AAMI and can't afford to be too dicky. But if you're running no profile Tyres dropped to the ground and have painted you're windows with a brush then I can see why they won't cover you, but if you have a ecu catless exhaust and tbone someone, I'm sure they aren't really going to try and slither out of repairing you're car! Either way they get you're hard earned money and many other peoples'.

    • For sure the later RB26 variants had a different setup (6 cam voltage sender?), but the RB25DE/DET share the same ECU pinout/PCB footprint, and at the ECU plug it ends up being 'throttle sensor in' & 'throttle sensor out' (to A/T TCU) ...you stick a multimeter on these pins and you'll find them directly connected (0 ohms) ; I had an pair of Nissan ECUs on the bench long ago, and I noticed this throttle sensor in/out link, actually linked to an op-amp ...which was unpopulated on the NA board, but present on the T board and I went 'ah-ha!' in some moment of clarity... ...it wouldn't surprise me if they changed strategy here though (in the software and actual monitoring of this signal), because they did with other stuff (A/T signals).. and 0.45v as a trigger point makes sense, as that's what the external TCU units expect at idle ; kudos, thanks for that insight...I suppose it boils down to whether or not Consult can display real time data of that signal's voltage... ...in any event, it presents the same target...ie; rotate TPS unit to achieve 0.45v to suit both ECU&TCU, and where do you goto from there? Just disconnect TPSwitch connector and/or that plus TPSensor connector....or do you go for the throat and disconnect IACV solenoid and see if it still stalls? (probably throws a recoverable fault code and goes for default idle strategy?)...
    • I’m also conscious that e85 is slowly being phased out. Not all United’s have them anymore. Can’t take the risk of being low on petrol and assuming the servo will have it.
    • MR HAMMER has said his piece. Painted up to avoid Rusty Rusty. Actually lines up well. (i.e it lines up the same as the unmolested GTR guard). Turns out the GTR Strut brace does foul on the bonnet vents ever so slightly. May need a little bendy bendy if intended to keep using with a strut brace. So spacing it out to clear the FAST102 is not an option. Annoyingly, the bonnet vents also foul on the heater lines running over the engine. Given this engine does not EVER require a heater, a delete loop is going to be used. Don't worry, the defogger uses the AC. The heater is basically "Do not use the aircon and turn the fan on". It will still be effective, I promise.... once I get the system regassed... Will have to revisit with unvented bonnet I suppose, and suitable strut brace. There's plans to do this and other things tonight and bleed brakes (there was a weep) and put the bumper back on, and take Good Friday morning - Because troubleshooting on the side of the road limping it home at midnight tonight is ... not very smart.
    • Thank you all for you assistance. I contacted Nistune regarding the support for the RB20DE along with my ECU Code (23710-10U00). They do have a map for it and added the RB20DE as a purchasable option now as well. They also added Malta as a Billing and Delivery options as this was missing. I was honestly amazed at their quick response and action, it took less than 24 hours. I also looked again at direct fit options for injectors, just in case I were to replace them. DeatschWerks seem to use a Bosch EV14 base and makes ones that fit mine at 440cc lowest, but also have 550cc at the same price. I tried looking for other direct fit options and managed to find one (also Bosch EV14 based) which includes a plug and play adapter on ebay. Did a small test with a Noid Light on the troubled injectors and all seems good, so they are pulsing properly electrically. One weird part is that they are missing on the same two cylinders as before I got the injectors cleaned. Mechanic also found this weird as he did not label the injectors and it is unlikely to have the faulty injectors be installed in the same cylinders.
