Hi All,

AS everyone knows I'm not unaccustomed to a bit of controversy.

Ok there has been some talk in the locker rooms over the past week. Some of you might have been involved, some of you might have heard rumours, and some might just be in the dark…

Either way, it looks as if we have agreed in principle that it’s about time we held an event to eclipse all those before it.

What better than SAU Nationals right? It’s certainly long overdue, that much is certain

The rough details are as follows:

Where: Shepparton, Victoria - Incorporating in Winton Raceway

When: 28/29/30th October

Whats going to happen?

Whats going to happen?

- Trackday

- Show’n’Shine

- Burnout Comp

- Some big signature workshop cars

There will be trophies/classes for events and all that jazz. There will also be a metric tonne of prizes, giveaways and so on.

Most people might need a day or two off work… I think it’ll be well worth it however

If you are a SAU Club member (QLD/VIC/NSW/SA/WA) then you will get priority entry into the events, also heavily discounted entry and accommodation pricing.

More information coming in Feb 2011. Please feel free to give ideas/thoughts as we are only just starting to plan.

We will also be looking for businesses willing to sponsor the event. So if you are a business, want some naming rights or perhaps come along to promote/advertise – then please contact me (once the PM system is up and running)

Thanks

-Ash

Well this is how it is ................................. ONE CLASS for our classics, everything pre 1986 is in a class of it's own? That's S54, C10, C110, C210/211 & R30 all in the mix together for one (1) prize ................................ Best pre 1986????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

On Saturday August 13th I sent this email to SAU Nationals;

Is there a cost yet?
What if I only want to do the show n shine and not track day??
Do I get the opportunity to just do the show day & how do I get access reservations to any merchandise/memorabilia when I wouldn't be arriving till Sunday morning for show???
Thanks,
Dennis

And I received this answer from his holyness Ash (R31Nismoid)

Hi Dennis.

No there is not. Show and shine will only be like $5 or something though, not expensive at all.Entry forms will be up in a couple of weeks - no one should miss out on the show'n'shine as there are plenty of spots

You can come on the Sunday only, that won't be a problem.

We will have a t-shirt etc on sale all weekend as well.

On Monday August 15th I sent this email to SAU Nationals;

Ummm Just had a look at the classes you are putting up? 20 years of S54, C10, C110, C210/211 & R30 together yet each for everything else??? I got jumped on in Adelaide 2010 when I suggested it was biased towards R31because they had R31, GTS/SVD & HR31 and this is going to be so much diferent??? Just biased away fron classics, so I guess this is the SAU MODERN DAY SKYLINE NATIONALS ?????????????? Maybe I wont bother

And I received this in reply;

Unfortunately we do not have unlimite funds for trophies given several sponsors have not come onboard as expected.

As a result we have no choice but to cater for the majority in this instance.

If you don't bother, then that's your choice.

BUT HOLD ON

This is going to be an event TO ECLIPSE ALL OTHER EVENTS BEFORE IT with a metric tonne of prizes and give aways and so on??????????

I have it on fairly good authority that none of the Gibson cars will be there and from the class list there is only best of in each class, so I'm just a bit curious where a metric tonne of prizes, give aways and so on are going to be?

Ummm it's now 17th August and entry forms and costing wont be available for a couple more weeks will be the 31st August and that is just nine (9) weeks before the event and not one (1) entry will have been received. In that time everything has to be collated and set in motion, ummmmm cutting it a bit fine IMHO!

So in October we are going to see, ummm not the SAU Skyline nationals, but in fact the SAU MODERN DAY SKYLINE NATIONALS because that will be the majority????

At least we classic owners now know where we fit into the SAU halls of fame eh???????

Is there anybody that thinks a CLASSIC SHOW inside the SAU Show would be a good idea?

That would cater for our needs and represent all models >>>>>>>> PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND NOW.

Cheers, D

I agree with more classics, anyone can buy a 32,33,34,35 which seems to be the majority of people, me included, but it takes a real enthusiast to keep the old girls going, I may be biased as Im getting on a bit now but at a car show its the smick old girls that get me excited.

If I want to see shiny post 90 cars I can look in the car park or the pits on any Sunday, more power to the classic guys and girls keeping these cars on the road and track.

FIGHT THE POWER

Dennis, i dont know why your supprised?

the only reason i Joined the NDSOC, and then helped form CSA and run the ORIGINAL skyline nationals (3x(Once with SAUSA)), is because when i turned up to SAUvic events (twice) i was scoffed at and told "thats not a Realskyline"

i guess they are correct that in the sence here it was sold as the 240k but i know thats not what they ment.

Real meaning its not an R32,33,34. A few people stuffed it for me i know now that its not everyone, obviously Ash must not feel this way as he has what was a GTSR and now i guess is a GTSR-R?

I wouldnt worry that the SAUnats is a having a limited amount of classes The Skyline Nationals in 2012 which is up your way NSW will have a revised list of classes, a revised list that input that you personaly have helped with.

i think it would be great if Skylines before 1986 were reconised at Ash's event but i can also understand that he is one man trying to do a whole lot on a limited budget so you do have to understand that sacrifices will have to be made,

it was only a month ago Ash said that there would not be anything other than stickers.

FYI i dont see this thread lasting.....

even more so now that ive added to it.....

just saying

:thanks:

I think a classic event would be great. But inside this event, don't think I would turn up. Tired of being scoffed at because I own a Classic.

At the Prince GT 40th Anniversary, (Which I was very priviledged to be invited to), my R31 GTS was referred to as a "Modern Skyline". I was still however, made to feel as welcome as any other member there, and my car was still embraced, even though it wasn't considered a classic. I am only saying that, so that people can see that sometimes it works in reverse as well.

As already discussed with you Dennis, had we known more than 6 weeks prior to the 2010 nats that there would be so many R30's there, there certainly would have been more trophys for that category. The reason there were so many R31 trophy's was based on previous years R31 turnouts. We had 50 of them there last year as well, so I think the number of trophy's was justified. However, we still tried to cover all models, including the later model series. Especially as SAU SA was so involved.

I don't see this thread lasting either, but glad you bought it up. You're always controversial, but this time, I think you got it right.

posers :yucky: anyone who cannot appreciate the oldies aren't real enthusiasts

I'd give my left nut to have the spare cash/space/everything for a classic datto.

I trawl on the viczcar forums & I have a tremendous amount of respect for the guys that go full restoration, let alone do most of the work themselves

my dream garage would be a fully resto'd 240z & a hakosuka, a man can dream... until he wins lotto

Whilst i agree with dennis, if theres not going to be many old skylines then it's not worth making separate classes.

BUT i'd still like to see it.

I would put my hand up to an all classics event BUT (after spending 6 weeks driving in greece) i find australia is just far too big for me to say yes to an east coast event from now, but then getting close to the time and finding that i cant make it due to expenses.

Good luck with it guys.

So after it was clearly outlined to you Dennis - what happened? You didn't comprehend it? Understand it?

The reason is plain as day why other older models are not represented as well this time.

Just because you do not agree, is your own problem. Grow up and complain to someone down @ the RSL tomorrow about it if you feel the need.

I have it on fairly good authority that none of the Gibson cars will be there

There is no mention on the SAU Forums, SAU Nats website or SAU Nats Facebook that the Group A cars are coming. Help if you actually argued with some facts.

What we do have however is a number cars fresh from WTAC coming along. They are offering Hot Laps for passengers on the day.

Without people like Mark Hansen/Trent Whyte & Seb Lip who are generous enough to bring such cars along, this wouldn't be possible.

In that time everything has to be collated and set in motion, ummmmm cutting it a bit fine IMHO!

Good thing you aren't helping then! With your constantly poor attitude, nothing would ever happen.

Sign up is 100% automated so entires are collated and sorted instantly. Let us worry about that though, we know how it works after all.

End of the day if you don't like it. Don't come.

I knew full well you'd come running with both keyboards swinging around like nun-chucks & starting some waffle thread about yet another 'grievance', after all you are a serial sook.

i think it would be great if Skylines before 1986 were reconised at Ash's event but i can also understand that he is one man trying to do a whole lot on a limited budget so you do have to understand that sacrifices will have to be made,

I totally agree. I'd love to have more classes as well.

However as outlined, sponsors simply have not come on-board, concessions get made. There were a lot of "promises" from businesses early on, yet not even 50% have come through.

But props to the businesses that have & recognise what an awesome event to get behind.

Iit's not "my" event at all. SAU-Vic is organising the event. 6 Committee members have been putting in massive work to make this happen everything from the Track day, Website & DVD... To things like Insurance, Security and all the "paperwork" that comes with organising something on a large scale.

The other State Clubs have also put in considerable effort behind the scenes as well :)
