so i was gonna change the turbo on the laurel on saturday coz i randomly got inspiration to work on it.

partly due to seeing my mate luke driving his laurel around, partly due to my mate kurt sayin that he is actually honna finish his ltd and we should go for a pimp cruise. and partly because im bored of drivin the skyline.

anyways. so i start pullin shit off. get to the manifold and find out there is 5 studs missing.

cyl 1 was missing the top stud and cyl 5 and 6 had no studs at all.

after taking the turbo and stock dump out. while i was prepping the new turbo to go on my mate alex was gonna pull the rest of the remaining studs out.

the bottom one on cyl one just fell, out.. leaving the 6 studs that hold cyls 2-4.

meaning the manifold is warped (yes the stock cast manifold) as it was a total bitch to get off requiring a crow bar and hammer.

so that called an end to the night for that project. no point puttin the turbo on the manifold as itll just make it harder to put on. plus need to probs get the manifold machined.

also the turbo elbow, from the rb20 turbos are to small to fit the vg30 turbo.

so who has any idea how to get these snapped studs out. ive seen dr bolt do it by welding a short rod to the snapped stud and then just twisting it out.

Hey Danny

You can try those easy-out extraction tools to remove the broken studs - but they don't always work as the studs are pretty stubborn & strongly set in.

A lot of the local guys on the forum with the same problem give it a shot, fail, end up chucking a fit and calling captain thread/dr bolt.

I reckon the welding idea is definitely worth a shot though!

Yeah im not a fan of stud extractors. if you snap one then your f**ked basically. im thinkin i might just call dr bolt. saves me f**kin anythin up. my old mans a welder but has never heard of such a thing before.

i guess its one of the things you pick up in the trade of fixing peoples f**k ups with bolts.

im half tempted to give it a try myself, but my issue is if i do it, f**k it up and risk f**kin the head up.

then im just gonna chuck a sissy fit and call dr bolt anyways haha.

see what happens later in the week. ill be keepin everyone updated haha.

yeah ive used Dr Bolt a few times. he came and saved me when we snapped the flywheel bolt in the crank in my laurel. and then when we snapped a few studs in lukes laurels head.

hell good bloke, always comes out after hours for us. and always keen to smash down a few beers with us haha

so i called Dr Bolt.

he came round and in an hour had all the studs out and the new ones in

later that day i started to process of gettin the vg30 op6 turbo ready to bolt up.

rotating the front housing and such.

then while i was waitin for some parts to be made. (needed to get a water line made up because as you know laurels run the smaller water banjos)

i decided to polish the comp cover... i quickly got over that idea, so i sprayed it black with high temp engine paint.

i had to get a silicon elbow because it turns out the rb20 turbo outlet elbows are to small for a vg30 turbo haha

i decided the polish the "NISSAN" just for a bit of bling. itll probs burn off but looks cool for now haha.

by the time i got to this stage it was startin to get dark and i had to go out.. it is leakin water from somewhere. and ive not had a chance to get under it to have a look.

but as im now unemployed ill be doin a fair bit of work to it over the next week or so.

next on the list is brake master cyl (as mines leakin)

hicas lock bar

and gettin my stainless 3" exhaust made up.

then its off to matt to get my nistune installed then to boostworx for some ecu fiddling.

no idea even on a guess at how much itll make. i got a feelin the motor is quite tired so probs be fairly low.

stay tuned.

hey guys just wondering are the laurel diffs the same as an r33 diff?

reason im asking is i wonna shim the diff as its a little loose and i cant only find a guide for the 33 diffs on here. i know they are both r200 but do they both run the same style of lsd?

finally put my hicas lock bar in today.

wheel alignment is up the shit and i need new tyres badly.

but now that i dont have hicas i can get the rear camber wound right out hopefully. or atleast get a few degress out. atm its ridiculous and destroyin tires. but that could also be because i never got it wheel aligned after puttin the coil overs camber and traction arms in it.

for now the stupid solinoid is stil in the car as i couldnt be f**ked gettin it out. but functionally hicas is no longer.

just need to do my exhaust and my seat rails then its time for rego. wont be long now :)

Cool...sounds like you'll be cruising soon. :)

I found out I already had a hicas lock bar when I took my car into Jaustech, to regas the aircon and install one. But the rear subframe bushes and boots are screwed, so couldn't do a wheel alignment, and explains all the clunking and shuddering from the rear end.

haha yeah cant wait. really wonna take it up to the lights this year. even tho they bore me its just somethin ive done ever since gettin my license haha. and dont wonna be crawling around in the cooner 31 haha.

haha score on having a lock bar already. slap some new bushes in there and she should be sweet.

oh i took t he laurel for a quick lap or two im the street. only made it to about half throttle.... but with the turbo tech boost controller having not been touched its now runnin about 17psi.. and its no where near as laggy as i was expecting.

but my streets not very long so couldnt get much tests runs done.

yeah they are the same inside :) , i've shimmed heaps of them

rad, probs gonna do that till i can afford a nice 2way,

ok heres a stupid question.

how the f**k do i go about bleeding the brakes on this thing.

its got abs and ive never owned a car with abs before, and ive been told that the procedure is totally different to doin a normal brake system.

reason i need to do this is because i changed the master cyl yesturday as the original one was leakin.

i noticed there is two bleed screws on the top of the abs module, but is it as simple as pump it up and open the screw or is there some fancy shit i have to do?

haha cool. ive got a suction bleeder. just was curious bout the f**kin abs shit haha.

laurel is on the back burner atm. the daily is bein a pain in the ass so gotta fix that up. bloody muffler blew itself to peices ive replaced it with a piece of pipe but turns out it was the only muffler in there so its not loud as hell. just bought a new muffler for it. wasnt ment to be spending money on the daily haha. bought it so i could save money to spend on the laurel lol!

ohwells :P
