The Worst Luck Ever!

So after the common oil feed line leak,i spoke to a couple of people and was advised to get the turbo high-flowed (stockish) while the motor was out.I organized it, and a few days later it was ready and i picked it up and gave it to the mechanic.

I also got an inter cooler and a high-flow cat for him to put on as well.Anyway after a couple of weeks of driving it(not thrashing it!) i could hear a air leak,my first thought was it must be the exhaust so i let the mechanic know what was going on and he said bring it in and he will take a look.The next day the starter motor shits itself,so i take it down to him and two days later he tells me that after dropping the box that its not an exhaust leak, and that its a hair line crack coming from the exhaust side of the turbo.i ran the guy who high-flowed it and he said that he dose not touch that part of the turbo and that i could either get it welded if possible or buy a new housing!

Has anybody else ever had this problem? im not sure what to do as my mechanic called the turbo guy that he uses,and he said that the guy i used sounds like hes talking shit just to get out of it

what do you think i should do?

Knee caps are a good starting place

Obviously there is a greater chance of the rear cracking from heat after you machine it out but I have seen many cracked stock GT35 XR6 rears, some cracked around the wastegate and others in the nozzle. Where did yours crack? I can have a crack at welding it for you if you like, pun intended.

There are a couple of turbos floating about but I dont know if anyone here wants to let just the rear go, perhaps you can buy a S/H one from Japan? Or I could fit a GTRS with tial rear and external gate in there...

yeah mate,and the crack is on the passenger side of the housing near the bottom

I doubt it was the machining down there on the bottom, perhaps a casting defect? This was a Hypergear right? What size did he go with it?

yeah it was hypergear,not to sure about the size,i can find out though.i was happy after i called them about it but then the mechanic has told me what his guy said.but In saying that he didn't work on it
