Pm35 Bluetooth

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if you guys know at all how to use or enable to Bluetooth in a Series II/PM35 stereo. I recall someone on here saying they had figured it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Getting the handsfree Bluetooth is something you'll have to experiment with once you get to the Bluetooth section, as I've had to when I've setup the phones I've owned. My memory isn't too good at that last stage. I suggest you remove the navigation DVD from the drive in the glovebox first which will temporarily disable a bunch of menus.

This procedure will only be relevant to the later Nav system that have a Carwings button, not the earlier one that didn't have this (2004 and some 2005 Stageas). Remember, the bottom right button is the "back" key,

First press the second button along on the top row (the one next to the TV button) Choose menu item 4/6 Next choose menu item 8/8 This takes you to the Bluetooth menu.

Turn Bluetooth on (top menu option)

Go to the second to last or the last menu option and it's there from memory that you tell the Stagea to search for your phone which must have Bluetooth turned on and searching for a Bluetooth host to connect to. When your phone finds the Bluetooth device named "My-Car" you then enter the PIN 1234 into your phone. Once paired, your phone should connect automatically every time you turn the ignition on in your car and the phone should also show it's paired.

You may have a problem (as I did initially and another forum member did) of your phone hanging up just after you answer a call using the steering wheel answer button. Hopefully you won't but if you do, one of the other settings (not sure which) on one of the other menus in the Bluetooth section could need it's status changing. Apparently there is an option which if its' enabled, will divert calls to elsewhere. I can't remember what I did but it took trial and error. Keep track of everything you change here as you may need to go back a step. It's frustrating not having the menus in English, but at this stage we just have to do our best. It works beautifully however, and did so with my old iphone 2G, my LG Optimus P500 and now my Samsung Galaxy SII.

Worked perfect. We dont have the Steering Wheel controls unfortunately so we won't have to worry about that issue.

Is there anything else you can do with the Bluetooth. For example stream your music to the car stereo? I'm doubting it, but worth a shot lol.

Glad to hear it was helpful. Was it the bottom menu item you used to pair the phone to the car? (The one that states a bunch of stuff in Japanese then the numbers 1234?)

I'm not sure if you can do anything else with it. I doubt it though as the bluetooth handsfree system mutes the stereo system, and audio seems to be sent through a single speaker that could be hidden under the dash. I haven't had a chance to investigate yet as it's my wife's daily driver so I don't get to drive it much.

If you don't have the steering wheel buttons, I'm not sure how you'd answer calls unless you do so at the phone itself.

There's a heap of other menu items in there that mean nothing to me. You can connect an auxiliary source (video and or audio) to the aux in socket located on the tuner module located behind the passengers side panel in the boot and then select AUX in from the TV section of the Navigation screen. You'll need to run a cable all the way back from the boot to the dash, and it'll only work with NTSC video signals (not PAL). There's lots of info in here relating to adding third party TV tuners. You're lucky in Aussie as you have a few choices. Our digital TV system is a little more unique and I haven't seen any compatible 12V gear around yet.

I tried on my 04 Stagea, (it has carwings, but only when you select it from pushing the menu (4th) button on top row), and I only get 4 options once in the carwings column. The only other column visible is the one for the trip computer info; fuel consumption, timers service reminder & fm radio adjustment.

Though in saying that I was trying it on the weekend and somehow got to a menu which had a picture of a phone, and it seemed to be searching, but I didnt have my phone nearby so when I tried it again with phone in the car, I couldnt find it, and it appears I deleted a heap of entries in the process. Something with channel numbers and things with envelopes (like emails). Doh!!

I'm beginning to think I dont have actual 'bluetooth' as I have the phone cable in the centre console, and I also have the steering wheel buttons, "vol, up/down, a pic of a phone, a pic of a person speaking (voice menu?), and the track/station up/down button." I also tried by voice command saying many things like "commando risto, setup, pair phone, menu" to name a few, all to no avail.

Obviously my navi controls are still in Japanese.

1 thing you dont mention is if the ignition switch has to be on accessory or the ignition position when pairing the phone? What did you do if you can recall?

Hey thanks for that. I might try getting the english translation first before i start pushing button. I believe there is a translation available? anyone in NZ done this procedure?

The Japanese to English translation is available for the M35 S1, but the the S2 is still being worked on. This has all been coordinated by the great people in this forum. There's also a NZ contact/installer for this.

Hey Spong,

Quick question. Does it work without the DVD nav cd being in the reader? I tried the process quickly, but couldn't get anything to work from the 2nd button on the top row. I don't have the DVD as unfortunately it wasn't with the car when I got it. My car has a "carwings" menu, so I guess it is one of the ones that works.

No you don't need the Nav DVD, and I recommend you remove it as it "greys out" lots of unnecessary menus, hence making it easier to setup bluetooth handsfree. I've left our Nav DVD out since a week after we got the Stag, and it hasn't prevented bluetooth, fuel economy or service interval reports from working just fine.

Has anyone had an issue where their screen just turned off and wouldn't turn back on no matter which buttons you pressed?

Also, anyone got a tip for keeping the screen up? Mine keeps trying to hide itself and needs to have the button pressed to over ride the automatic close three times to keep it open.

I found out how to stop the screen turning off - in the same menu that you adjust brightness of the screen there is an "ON/OFF" setting at the very top. This seems to be a "auto time out" screen function as once I turned it off the screen never did it again.

I have managed to pair my phone to the BT (iPhone 4S) - follow Spong's method above but I found I could only find the Bluetooth on my phone when I had the first Bluetooth menu opened, rather than the last.

So my process was:

Info button (Next to TV) -> 4/8 -> 8/8 (Bluetooth) -> First menu item -> Go to phone's Bluetooth pairing and choose My-Car / 1234.

However, the Bluetooth seems pretty lousy quality, I'm not sure where the mic is, but it's got some wild frequencies transmitting to the other person and what I hear isn't great either. My Pioneer headunit in my previous car was far superior.

The steering wheel buttons work though, not sure I could get them working with a headunit.

I managed to stuff mine up so that the screen turns off after a short time, and can't work out how to reverse this. Can you tell me how to get to the screen where brightness and the time out option is? Thanks.

Fantastic, all good now. I wish I could read Japanese, it'd make things much easier. I wonder how the Russian firmware deveopers are getting on with the S2 translation? Seems to be taking forever.

Glad it worked out. I have to find the setting now that is forcing a redirection, as everytime I answer a call it drops out within 2 seconds, but works fine when I make the call.

I'll post a solution once I find it if anyone else is finding the same thing.

Yeah, mine had that problem when I first set it up. Can't remember which setting it was except that it was in the Bluetooth section and I just used trial and error until I found it. I'd really like to pair my PM35 to more than one phone if possible, but haven't figured that one out yet. I've photographed the screens in that area and hope to get a translation from a friend sometime in the next few weeks.
