HKS T04Z, info?

Like the title says, I am looking for any info anyone has on the new HKS T04Z. I searched this whole board and read every post regarding the t04z, and I've searched about 5 other boards related to my specific application (rb26). I haven't found much info. I was curious if anyone here has any experience with it or might happen to know where I could find more info. I even searched google and mostly just came up with some Japanese websites. The main thing I am concerned about is lag. However, looking at mk4 Supra dynos w/ the t04r (thanks t04r.com!), and considering the t04z is a DBB turbo w/ almost the same specs, I don't think lag will be much of a problem. I'm thinking of going with an exhaust a/r .81 out of the 3 different ones available.

After researching for quite awhile, I've narrowed down my turbo options, and this is one of them. I love HKS turbos, so I am going to go with one, even though I know there are far cheaper turbos with similar performance. I do know the to4z is dual ball bearing and good for ~700hp, which more than meets my power goals. I'd like to ultimately have ~500+rwhp at the very most. I wouldn't run at that power level very often, but I'd still like the capability of doing it whenever I want to. I had considered the T51r KAI just because it's an awesome turbo! However, that is too much turbo considering my power goals. I had also considered the Nismo N1 turbos, HKS gt-ss' and gt2530's but now I'm leaning towards going single to really simplify the turbo setup and cut down on plumbing, piping, etc. I've also considered the t04s and t04r however the price difference between these 2 and the t04z isn't too much, and the t04z seems to basically be a DBB t04r anyways. I want to cut down on lag as much as possible so I like the idea of the t04z. Any help anyone can give me is much appreciated.

Hi porschephile, have you considered a Garrett GT35R for 700 BHP? Since your goal is 500 rwhp (600 bhp) a GT30/40 would give that result with better response than the GT35R. You are paying a lot extra for a HKS sticker and box.

I know this is obvious, but just in case. You should also keep in mind that the 2JZ is 3 litres and the RB26 is 2.6 litres. That means 15% more rpm to achieve the same exhaust flow.

As for twins, I have yet to find a better all round turbo/s for a 2.6 litre RB26 than a pair of 2530's. I have tried lots of combo's on many standard capacity RB26's and the 2530's win every time for all round (road, drag & circuit) performance. At the current Nengun price they are a bargain.

Well, the reason is I am obsessed with HKS! Seriously, I just really like HKS and their products, and decided I am going with an HKS turbo. I know there are far cheaper turbos with similar or better performance (like Garrett), but I want HKS. Call me crazy.

I have considered the 2530's and I do like them. They seem to provide the best all-around performance for low-end, top-end, reponse, etc. I plan on building another Rb-Z in the future, and it will most certainly have 2530's on it. However, right now I really want the single turbo "sledgehammer-in-the-chest" acceleration.

As for displacement, I do realize the .4l difference and how that effects everything. Though, I was just going by 2jz to4r dynos to get a general idea of what I am looking at. The to4z being DBB and rb26's higher rev band then the 2jz's will definitely help compensate.

i have had this turbo since November damn it just sitting in my cabnet looking pretty.

I dont know if its a good idea unless you are going to do the whole deal...but the japs seem to be making good results with the 1.00A/R.

I just didnt want too much of the lagg that came with that...
