Great in theory - however there is the simple little rules stating for WTAC you can't strip the cars like mad for Club Sprint Class.

Interior

• Interior must remain as it came from the factory with the following exceptions

• Front seats may be replaced with cams approved seats.

• Rear seats may be removed.

• Carpet may be removed.

• Stereo may be removed.

• Air conditioning may be removed.

• Local modification to interior for fitment of a roll cage is allowed.

And what I can tell you is that the AC and the Stereo (if I can get it working!) are not going anywhere! :)

What I will need clarification on with these rules is the steering wheel as I currently run an aftermarket one and that may not be eligible with-in these rules.

Again - this is kind of the point of this thread I guess. To talk about how we go about building a versatile car with-in some specific rules and yet still make it as fast as we can.

Quick update.

Fixed the broken boost solenoid, fitted an Akrapovic exhaust system and thanks to Aaron @ Import Monster got a great new set of shoes (Volk G12's)

Got a chance to get back to Phillip Island and did some tyre testing on the weekend.

Have now compared Bridgestones, Dunlops and the R888's and the R888's are by far the best of the 3 available 20" options right now - for sprint work at least.

Managed to improve my PI time to 1.46.75 - which is even better than my used A050's time. Car is still only running 15psi.

Have an intercooler, intercooler pipe kit and MAF sensor coming from AMS and will upgrade the intake pipes to 2012 OEM and see if we can't increase the boost some more.

Yeah sorry - caught up in reading too many US forum posts on the matter.

ADM 2011 turbo intake pipes / US 2012.

FWIW they were around $600 for a pair from Nissan Oz. Much cheaper than the HKS ones!

I've also ordered a HKS DCT Cooler. Keen to see how good that works.

I guess for those that don't read the US stuff - this is the difference between the 08-10 pipes and the 11+ pipes. The black line on the old pipes is the turbo flange diameter.

You really have to wonder if this was deliberate by Nissan as an easy power gain

What were the times on the OEM Bridgestones vs OEM Dunlops (if you have a comparison on a similar setup) and any other comments on the differences in feel?

I was about 1.5s faster on the Dunlops over the Bridgestones.

The Dunlops have much more lateral grip. But at Winton I found they were surprisingly poor in the wet.

The amazing thing I found with the comparison of the Toyo and Dunlops was it wasn't so much the lateral grip that was different - the Dunlops are very good there - it was the longitudinal grip. So braking and power down in 2nd gear. That is where the Toyo's are MUCH better.

I assume you are talking about the RE70R and not the RE70R R2? The UTQG rating is the same for both but I would assume they would have to have made some improvement.

What was the difference in longitudinal grip between the Bridgestone vs Dunlop? I am mainly thinking forward to WTAC next year where UTQG 140 is the cutoff for the street class. When I get round to organising semis I'll be using 18s so there will be plenty of options there.

I got mine from Fontana Nissan for $370us. Bugger Nissan Australia, they are a rip off. I am going to fit them Thursday. Wish me luck. When you said 2012 I thought "Oh crap are the new ones even bigger"

+1 on the inlet pipes

ive been quite vocal on here and nagtroc on how nissan has deliberately choked the turbo with the pipe diameter to ensure future marketing new model ops

i ordered the inlets together with my intake and couldn't understand back then why the yanks were creaming themselves over 3" maf intake tubes when it necks down to under 2" at the inlet anyway - seems they've now caught on

B the aftermarket inlets from HKS and Top Secret are a few mm larger than the 2011 oem

Be good to see once you get more boost into it, and workout the issues at the moment.

Very interested :D

Almost every manufacturer does that, how else do you think they get 10 years out of a motor and "magically" keep wringing power/torque out of it to add something new each year/revision etc

Wouldn't be surprised if Nissan already have an end figure/set-up ready. Just a matter of swapping parts, adjusting tunes until new motor time.

Yes I was using the original RE070R - not the new ones. And admittedly I was comparing older used Bridgestones to new Dunlops - so there might be something in that. I still think the Dunlops are going to be the better of the 2 tyres - but given Marek won Clubsprint on the Hankooks this year and you obviously have a set of 18's they might be worth considering as well? I will personally run Superlap on the Dunlops though.

As a side topic - I really noticed the car was wallowing in the rear on the longerer high G corners. Have other guys found that as well? I'm only running stock suspension currently but am thinking of grabbing a set of sway bars to see if it helps settle that down.

agreed

it's comical reading the new model year threads over on nagtroc where the american consumer loses their mind over the perpetual model release program and leans on that cheap credit to keep upgrading year by year

in fact the marketing departments over there are so clever they exclusively for the americans name a model year +1, just so they are buying the future model before everyone else

Well they are a special lot. Remember when one American beats another American that makes him the World Champion. Even their national baseball competition is known as the World Series :)

Yeah he pulled boost out after the first session! LOL

He mentioned something about "safety margins" but yeah I presume it was referring to me getting near his times and him making sure that didn't happen. :)

But I'll have his measure by Easter I reckon.

    • Yeah they charge a little extra for mods , last year I noted no mods but I did have an exhaust fitted after that so  better to let them know cause these kinds of things can cause the policy to be void if you ever need to claim.
    • Hello, just just bought an 1999 enr34 with a stock rb25neo and I'm looking to upgrade the engine to 500whp I know some basic things but wondering if there are things I'll need to do to upgrade the stock block and all the bits and pieces to achieve this.
    • Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. Got the seats out (hoping I could find some existing grommets but no such luck). By tapping and measuring etc. I could figure out where I could drill through if needed. But first I borrowed an inspection camera and managed to go through factory holes in the chassis rail and could see that the captive nut was holding steady which is why it could retighten. So it was indeed a stripped section of thread, so I applied downforce by levering the bolt head with a screwdriver and went slowly back and forth until it came out. Camera helped a lot cos I could monitor that the captive nut was holding tight. Now I just have one very seized main subframe nut to tackle 😅
    • BOVs do have a purpose, if you ever log pressure before and after the throttle body, you will see a spike pre throttle on lift off from a WOT condition. Enough to bend throttle blades / damage e-throttle motors or simple assist in blowing off cooler pipes. FWIW, the above on really applies to those running at least 2 bar of boost. OP shouldn't have an issue, on the other hand, here are some videos of my shit box over a decade ago with some succulent dose with the airbox on and off. That shit box is unrecognisable these days 🫠
    • I've tried all different combinations of BOVs/ no BOV and stock bypass valves over the years, on gear changes the stock bypass valve seems to get the car back on boost quicker because in part the turbos wheel speed isn't being slowed down by reversion, although they have issues holding boost much over the stock setting. Most aftermarket BOVs you can adjust the spring, tighter will make it open later and close sooner, but in my experience it'll cause a bit of flutter at low load/rpm anyway. I've also got some input into this whole no bov causing turbo wear, never had an issue on any on my turbos HOWEVER, I got my R33 GTST with 200k kms on it, with from what I can see still has the original turbo, no lateral shaft play but has about 4-5mm of play in and out which to me seems like a worn thrust bearing from years (100-150k kms?) of turbo flutter running no bov, so maybe there is some truth to it in the long run. But that'll never stop me loving the Stutututu while I have the car.   OP just wants to know if he can run a atmo vented BOV with no major issues and the answer is YES, plenty of people do it, there's no harm in installing it and seeing how it runs before spending $$$ on an aftermarket ecu, last time I bought a Nistune it was $2400 for install and a tune , unsure of todays prices but you get me. Crazy money to spend just to fix the minor inconvenience of stalling that can be overcome by letting the revs come down to near idle before putting the clutch in or a little bit of throttle to avoid it. You're better off leaving the ecu and tune for after a bigger turbo/injectors have been installed to take full advantage of the tune and get your moneys worth.   Let OP have his Whoosh sound without trying to break his bank haha
