ARTZ
20k ish to spend, reliability is big factor, around 100,000km.. Which would you buy and why? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/ Share on other sites
iamhe77
MPS. Newish Mazda's are damn reliable (that's Ford out of the equation ) and even if something went wrong, parts are not overly expensive (that's VW out of the equation ) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/#findComment-5980540 Share on other sites

Cowboy1600
XR5 - MPS - Golf in that order. XR5s look the best of the three (subjective, of course). Engine is the best, although the MPS is more powerful (just a bit more agricultural). The Focus chassis is also renown as being one of the best ever on a mass produced road car. It's also a Volvo motor and is extremely reliable. The MPS has oodles of power and torque but chassis isn't as sorted or capable as the Ford. Super reliable, looks great. The Golf is a great little car but I've heard their reliability is questionable. Of course that's relative. Many Golf owners have years and years of happy motoring with no issue, but out of the three it's the one most likely (however small) to give you problems. The engine is a corker although the least powerful and torquey of the three. It's a great handler, almost on par with the Focus. Also probably the most expensive to maintain, although there's probably little difference between it and the XR5. That's my opinion. MattR
how about mondeo TDCI.ive looked a few and nothing in their class, good through the hills and can do lots with the turbo deisel, and still have great fuel consumption about 6L/100km Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/#findComment-5980547 Share on other sites
ARTZ
what does the golf have over the MPS? I know the mazda has an awesome sound system, and goes damn quick..is the gti any faster? Ahh forgot about the volvo motor too..i thought the focus and mazda shared the engine, that would explain why the focus is dearer..I beleive the mazda is easy to mod too..not sure about the others.. i beleive mazda have excelled in the last 10 years with affordable allrounders that never give any drama Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/#findComment-5980579 Share on other sites
Marlin
GTi is quite a bit slower in a straight line. What the Fark does a Mondeo turbo diesel have to do with this thread? urtwhistle
+1 for the XR5. those Volvo 5 cylinders have a wicked bark at full noise. esp when you get some heat into the exhaust they get a wicked burble/crackle on over-run Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/#findComment-5980594 Share on other sites

Mondeo's are synonomous with zero resale value. yes the mondeo has shit re-sale from new but a 08-10 model with 30-70K will sell for around the 20 mark has lost its 50+% from new and wont loose much more. ive driven one with zorst and chip and walked all over the XR5. and i dont think he put re-sale value into it. Jonno34
Definitely XR5T for me too I love the focus chassis, it felt like a really solid car Looks and the chassis would do this for me, im not a fan of the mazda design. imo the focus is just the most "sporty" of the 3 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/#findComment-5981010 Share on other sites
