Im a big fan of the xr5t as the car was tested on the dyno @ redline for like 2 weeks continuous. Amazing stuff from the volvo engine.

I bought a brand new e46 bmw 325i, serviced it religiously and drove it like a grandma, it still blew coilpacks, gearbox after 30k @ $7000 to replace and the BMW service price is about $450 for an oil change.

The head developed a terrible rattle on cold-start too after one month of ownership. The dealership said that nothing was wrong and refused to fix it because it went away after the car was warm.

My mums disco3 has nothing but problems too; bad electrics, suspension and just last week needed a new air compressor.

Just my experience with euro cars - Buy japanese or korean

not entirely too sure whats causing it to burn through so much fuel, especially since my tyre pressures are at the right levels now (they were running at 18psi when i bought it lol - i thought that explained the bad fuel consumption).

Probably a melted or blocked cat.

they can have some pretty shocking service costs (R35 gtr for example, LOL). one of the regulars at work was saying that he'd just had his toyota serviced (klugger or something like that) and it cost him $170 because he has fixed price servicing, but his RX-8 was due for a service. he said he wouldn't get much change from $1000. $12 change to be exact.

Probably a melted or blocked cat.

or dodgy AFM, o2 sensor, low compression, leaky/very dirty injectors, sticking brake caliper/hand brake, and various other things could also be possible causes

toyota are the best/cheapest to service..they dont even have 100k timing belt changes..

R35 is a budget supercar these days not the souped up sport saloon it used to be..So in comparison to the cars it can beat I'd say the servicing isnt too bad..

I do deliveries for a euro wrecker on occasion..dropped of a used BMW thermo fan the other day..460$..there was nothing special about it..

Also dropped of an ECU for a Ferrari dealership a while back receipt said 5500$..i asked what is was for..he said the clutch...lol..

i'd still take the veryon. but i'd take a lambo over both and then spend my days drive back and forth through tunnels at full noise in 1st gear

oh and as for the toyotas not having 100k timing belt services, would this be because they run timing chains? plenty of cars run them and don't require them to be changed at 100,000kms. all sr20 motors do, hell even the old datsun motors do.

MPS trumps the competition!

I recently purchased an MPS new after test driving the WRX (cheap & hideous with vague steering, soft suspension and a 5 speed WTF?) the GTi (admirable all-rounder but lacks any real guts or go) and the XR5 (lacking features and looks)

I actually wanted a WRX but was so disappointed once I had driven one that I just couldn't. The GTi may be a hatch and may be "sporty" but it isn't "hot" and just fails to excite. At all...

They also have quality and reliability options $11k for a new DSG transmission anyone? The GTi may have won many awards but check out the quality surveys and VW is third from bottom just ahead of Ford and Holden! Fact!

My mate has an XR5 that has been chipped and it goes and sounds great I like it... but... he has driven my MPS and guess what? He wants to buy an MPS now!!!

The MPS has a great chassis with well sorted suspension (and a pretty firm ride) it is also quicker from 0-100km than the others aside from the WRX... but how many times are you willing to side-step the clutch at 7000rpm in your brand new WRX to get a good time?

The in-gear acceleration of the MPS is truly awesome it is quicker from 80-120km (3.5sec) than a Aston Martin Vantage V8 and a 911 Carerra. The MPS is top speed limited to 250kph by which stage the competition are all long gone.

It has the high speed handling and braking that also shames the competition (330mm disks up front)

Check out the list of features on the luxury model:

Integrated sat-nav

Leather seats

18" Alloys with fantastic tyres

Bi-Xenon headlights

Auto - lights, wipers, rear view dimming

Subaru has lost there way a little bit I reckon, I love the new STI's but I'm not surprised you found the wrx a little boring, I remember when standard wrx's were awesome, once they bugeye versio came out they seemed to go down hill, like most car companies now there all cheaply made to some extent, lowest bidder wins, this is exactly why a 20k VW will always be crap, your either buying an oldish out of warranty one or a new povo one, why bother.

Mazda to me are like Toyota, still building pretty damn good cars, never really heard anything bad about any Mazda, even from people who used to work on them, I'd prefer an old 12a powered 2 stroke rx7 over a vw or audi anyday.

i had a clio 197, and i loved it. and others who have owned the 197 will agree with me, they're awesome cars. And the new megane 250rs, looks pretty awesome, and on paper, its pretty quick too.

I've always read this in magazines. Surely I would of though if a MPS and a 911 Carrera were to boot it side by side at 80km/h the Porsche would kill it.

Is it becuase the Porsche gearing isn't suited for a 80km/h roll?

With 259kw, 0-100 in 4.7? and a 1/4 mile under 13 you'd expect it to walk a MPS :blink:

I had a modified MPS3. As mentioned earlier the Ford and the Mazda share the chassis,

it's great when teamed up with some coilovers.

As for the power specs.. On the road the Mazda feels quicker but in reality is only slightly faster than the other two.
