I've always read this in magazines. Surely I would of though if a MPS and a 911 Carrera were to boot it side by side at 80km/h the Porsche would kill it.

Is it becuase the Porsche gearing isn't suited for a 80km/h roll?

With 259kw, 0-100 in 4.7? and a 1/4 mile under 13 you'd expect it to walk a MPS

generally the 80-120kmh acceleration is done in 5th gear, so it isn't quite an accurate of how fast they are. if you were do drop down to 2nd or 3rd gear then yes, the porsche would eat the mazda. that said, the difference between the porsche and the mazda is only 0.2 of a second (3.5 vs 3.7). a lot of it comes down to gearing as well as torque range. the r35 gtr does it in something like 4.5 to 4.8 seconds and the fpv turbo 6 will do it somewhere between 2.6 and 2.9 seconds.

golf gti's are a dime a dozen over here in the uk.

being an aussie, i hate 99% of them. the poms gennerally dont have a clue on style mods, but i have seen a few really nice gti's.

they are cheap over here too. we're talking 1500 pounds for a 10 year old gti. around 3k pound for a mint 10 year old one.

if the nissan pulsar i own ever shit it self i would buy one.

on a side note, a mate has a 2000 model gti, 1.8ltr turbo, its got a front mound, exhaust, pod, tune, boost.... SLOW.

with 1 or 2 people in it, its pretty nippy, but put 4 adults in it and its not that great. ca18 silvia would eat it.

just my experience.

cheers adam

Girls cars

Just sayin'

Also too many people missing it's where the cars are made, not where the parent company is from.

Mercs were shit for a while because they were building them in South Africa.

None of the cheaper german cars are actually made in germany, they have bits assembled from random euro countries, only the top end stuff is made in germany, but who wants to spend over 100k on a badge anyways :nyaanyaa:

Drove a dc5 last night for the first time and i dont see how anyone could say that jap cars are poorly built, seemed alot better built then alot of golfs i've driven.

plus 1 re girls and cars..

current squeeze is looking into something 'sporty' at about 15-20k, i pressed for more info but she professed not knowing enough about cars to elucidate further on her needs so to just go nuts..

So of course i spammed her inbox with a plethora of S15's, Supra's, Skylines and the odd Civic/Integra. She finally gets back to me saying it needs to be auto, post 06', no more than 2 litres or so and most importantly RED.

now looking at XR5s and MPS's but cant find one in auto, im figuring thats not an option? might have to punt for the GTI even with all the hate for them in here..

i do like this mazda however..

thanks 10 4, some nice options there, i like the Jetta and i didnt realise you could get mini coopers and the later US style 350z based skylines that cheap. Oh i forgot her other qualification was that it needed to be from a dealer, apparently her bank prefers them over private sellers :(

I am in a car shooping quandry at the moment too. My Girlfriend has started free lance make up artistry so she would like a hatchback to fit all her stuff in it (Taking the GTR is proving troublesome) with the back seats folded down, we also travel into the country a bit so being able to get out and pass people at 100km/h is important too. Ideally we dont want to spend more than 15,000 but could spend a bit more for the right car.

The cars I have come up with that meet the breif of, Hatch back, not too old, a little bit fast, decent handling and not too dear are:

2002ish VW Golf GTI, 110kw 210nm, 0-100 in 8.5sec 8.0L/100 mixed driving

2002ish Audi A3, 110kw 210nm, 0-100 in 8.7sec 6.7L/100 mixed driving

2006ish Suzuki swift sport 95kw 148nm for some reason I cant find a 0-100 7.5L/100 mixed driving.

Any one got anything to add to my list to check out? Any comments on what is on the current list besides "girl car" because it IS for a girl who is really tired of my GTR lol

    • H2 (for cars) will never happen. It's not reasonable for any number of reasons. It's also not reasonable for almost all of the industrial uses that the fanbois say that it will be used for, again for a large number of reasons. There are some cases where it will be good. But, even those will be massively hampered by the economics. The only way that H2 can be economic is if we somehow manage to get from where we are to the other side of the economic-valley-of-death in which no-one can operate. You need there to be sufficient renewable generated electricity to be available so that it is effectively free. Once you are there, you can do whatever the hell you want and hang the efficiency. But until you get there, the ever diminishing value of electricity makes it harder and harder to encourage businesses to build the new generation capacity, and they will simply stop investing in generation projects. (I kinda think there needs to be just government money spent on building the required capacity in a non-commercial way, similar to how the first fossil fueled grids were built, as national-government owned utilities. And probably some nuclear in there to start. But this all should have started 10-15 years ago to avoid the chasm of death that we face right now). Synth fuels will be much more likely, but will only occur is there is at least some renewable H2 production, because you need H2 to do it. And you need stacks of free (or at least extraordinarily cheap) energy because assembling molecules back into fuels is exactly the opposite process to burning the fuel, and the reason we burn fuels is because there is so much energy squeezed into each molecule. So you're somewhat subject to the same economic valley of death problem as above anyway. That is unless people are willing to pay the current equivalent of $5 or $6 per litre of petrol-ish liquid fuels. Can you imagine it? The squealing at $2 now is bad enough.
    • This is so cool. Get a dashcam that records audio and hopefully you'll catch it.  Maybe there's a brand or some kind of markings on the back ? Are the pics hand drawn? I love it so much.
    • Hahaha yep, point(s) taken. I just like seeing different things and an EV in an R32 is pretty different. I'm not on the EV band wagon, I'm waiting for synthetic fuels or hydrogen personally.
    • I mean it's probably likely that people overestimate their skills in dialling in a setup and noticing the changes. I had SK shocks and springs, and added heavier springs and got them revalved by Sydney Shocks to suit based upon what I told them I wanted the car to handle like. I got back a completely different feeling set of shocks, which probably (?) feel great on track but holy hell are they rough on tram tracks and the like. The shock dyno actually looks pretty similar to Shockworks (from what I can surmise from a screenshot of a youtube video - and my dyno printout...) Truth be told I doubt I'd be any faster or slower with either setup, or camber/castor combination. I also had whiteline eccentric castor bushes up front of my R34. I removed them and put in poly non-adjustable ones to soothe my OCD (nobody ever set the castor the same side to side, and it'd be near impossible to do) and be happy the wheel is centered in the well now for clearance reasons. Yes I wanted it to move 1mm 'back' :p I've effectively set my castor back to stock, negating all the benefits of that which is supposedly massive. I've probably also altered toe and camber in a negative (detrimental) way. I can't tell any difference steering the car.
