eightsixboy
Depends on your definition of a "bucket of shit". I would define exploding gearboxes and 90% plastic as a s**tbox Why anyone buys Euro has got me stumped, they look and drive good for a few years then they just fall apart. Nee-san
That's the idea, people who buy these sort of cars IE those interested in resale value etc buy the car new, live with it while under warranty then get rid of it before it has problems. That's sort of how manufacturers want it to work anyway. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/page/4/#findComment-5984249 Share on other sites
ARTZ
euros are definately overpriced and so are bought by people with disposable income who are happy to buy disposable cars..the more expensive euros however are better quality machines because people that spend quarter of a mil on a car expect it to last.... Most jap branded cars I find are good for 250kms before they start to fall apart.. vesh
I currently own a '09 MKV GTI as a daily and it is one of the best cars I have driven, overall a excellent package Two of my friends have XR5's and they both wish they paid the extra to get the MKV GTI Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/page/4/#findComment-5984368 Share on other sites
vesh
What ever you do dont buy the golf, buckets of s**t trust me. Go the mps, there are meant to be pretty good, I wouldn't buy anything other then a jap car. Have you ever owned a Golf? It won so many awards for a reason . . . eightsixboy
You make me laugh. Why? Cause I speak the truth? Take a 10 year old Jap car and compare it with a 10 year old euro, see which is better. The jap car will still drive like new, trims intact etc the euro will have trims falling of, engine light on dash, rooted box if its a auto, trust me i work on euro trash everyday and its complete rubbish. The only good euro's are porches or high end stuff, the low end euro stuff is awful. Point been, most owners who love them only own them for the warranty period, so its a new car, but just wait till something goes wrong outside warranty period and you had better lube up. eightsixboy
Have you ever owned a Golf? It won so many awards for a reason . . . Lol, are people really that ignorant? I have not and never will own a VW, I worked on vw's for over 5 years and I have seen it all, it makes me laugh that the general public still think there good. The awards dont go into reliability or repair costs, if it did they would be behind most other makes. Any car that isn't serviced / neglected us going to fall apart. I've had both jap and euros (E39 540i, E36 M3 Evo, Audi 80 <2k bunky, nothing broken), both are totally different to own and drive. Jap cars feel so cheap in comparison to euros. My mum has had a C280, Saab 95 and currently a E39 528i. All trouble-free, looked after, reliable solid cars. eightsixboy
But there is a big difference between a 40k BMW and 20k VW. Of course any car that is looked after will be reliable, but jap stuff will last longer and be alot cheaper to fix. I have driven alot of cars including a Gallardo, R8's, R36's RS4's Golfs etc and there boring compared to a GTR or even my GTST, thats my opinion but everyone at work that drove the Gallardo said it was a piss of crap, an expensive one at that. Problem is most people dont have 5k plus to replace there gearbox when it does need replacing (which it will) or 1k do do a service on them, yes they might drive well but there way overpriced to fix and service, and when they do break it can cost a crap load. I knew a guy who worked at Saab and he hated them, having the cambelt facing the firewall... wtf are they thinking. I guess when you work on these cars you develop a hatred for them I guess, but its just funny how knowone at my work actually drives euros, the only ones that do dont have to buy them, kinda says it all. dori34
id go the Mazda 3 MPS. the VW golf is too expensive to maintain and repair (if it never needs any repairs. the golf also has shitty manual back seat adjuster/recliner knob which is another negative) Ive seen ford Focus XR5 run at high 14s, low 15s which hard exhaust anf fmic from what i could see - pretty slow imo lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/page/4/#findComment-5984503 Share on other sites

ARTZ
actually doin the research for a relo that seems to have golf hype syndrome..personally I wouldnt even consider it as I dont like low end euro trash at all.. When we bought our honda accord a friend bought an A6 aud... Both 04 models both v6 both fully optioned with leather sunroof tint etc...the audi did look a bit slicker with its 18 inch wheels but didnt necessaarily handle any better.maybe at autobahn speeds but Ive had the honda on long drives happily at 120 to 150 and its still smooth as silk .audi did have a very smooth almost seamless 7 speed auto but it didnt have Vteck yo' so it wasnt any faster. The ride quality wasnt any better..audi did have a quieter cabin I beleive..but all in all he paid 40k when we paid 20k and I really didnt see the extra worth and his servicing is twice as expensive..maybe euro quality is slightly better but mostly its just bragging rights your paying for.. 160,000kms on the accord now and other than tired shocks and the front discs needing machining which is common with all auto cas, I cant fault it..did have a door lock jam up but only cost me 40$ to fix Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/374950-mpsxr5golf/page/4/#findComment-5984673 Share on other sites
