Hey guys, i started up my car yesterday from cold and while working under the bonnet, noticed a coolant trail coming from under my car. i put the car up on a hoist at work and found that it was coming from the back of the block. i cant pinpoint the leak 100% because i cant see whats behind there from the top of the car or the bottom. i cant even reach my hand behind there. Theres just F-all space! I managed to squeeze a mirror behind there and saw a small section of hose maybe 10cm long or less. I reckon its coming from there. Can anyone confirm this? Or better still does anyone have a pic of the back of the engine just so i know what im dealing with? Any help appreciated.

cheers, Steve

yeh there is 2 hoses that run around the back of the engine that carry coolant as well as the larger heater hoses.

The smaller hoses i genuinely couldn't see how to change them without taking the plenum off. I decided to change all of the coolant hoses which pretty much requires you to take the plnum off anyway.

Hey Steve,

If you have small hands(and dont mind carving your knuckles up a bit(adds to your character)) you can get in there lol, and yes there are two small hoses back there (bout 15mm diameter from memory) one is bout 10cm or less in length but cant remember the second one sorry. Definitely change both these hoses.

There is also a bent shaped hose under the plenum(bout 30cm long with a chicane type of bend in it), it runs front to back along the block just under the plenum might be worthwhile changing that too while your at it.

hope this helps

Mick

there is about 9 hoses if you want to replace all of them that run around and under the plenum, including radiator hoses and those 2 that run around the back

you really need to get them from nissan because they are moulded and you pretty much can't just get a straight peice to do the job

they aren't cheap but totally worth the peice of mind

there is a spring like device (dunno what its called) that you can put over straight hoses that enable you bend the hose without it kinking, that may be an option if the nissan parts guy tells you the hose(s) your after have to come from japan and you haveto wait weeks to arrive

no i did those hoses a couple of years ago now, i went into nissan and stood there with them on the program and pointed them out when i ordered

steven that's ok for a single bend, and only to a certain degree

a lot of the hoses have multiple bends etc

it could work for the mean time on the hose he's talking about as it's only a single bend and not too tight

but it's almost impossible to get at the hoses down the back there without taking the intake off, which you're better off waiting until you have all the hoses
