Hey Guys,

I just got a quote for installation of NIStune and tune for my S2 Stag from Classic Performance Dyno Centre in Hackam SA.

They quoted $1250 for install and tune. Is it just me or does that price seem a bit high? I've read plenty of topics on here where people have had the chip installed and tuned for around the $700-$800 Mark.

I get that a good tune comes at a price and I'm not trying to get out of paying that price but I'm also not willing to get ripped off.

Can anyone recommend somewhere cheaper in SA (preferably south of the city) where they have had good experiences?

Cheers.

Alternativley you could get these guys: Nistune to install your chip then find a tuner you like for the tune.

Might save you a few dollars or at least give you time to save for the tune after getting it chip'd.

Pretty sure that when i added it up last the chip and 2-3hrs on Willall's dyno worked out quite reasonable. Depending on your mods it could work out a lot cheaper.

Plus you can save yourself $17.80 on postage if you pick it up and drop it off yourself!

Good Point, unfortunately it's a bit of a hike to Surrey Downs from Morphett Vale I'm afraid and the car is my daily so not really an option for me to take out the ECU and post it off.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll just have to think of something else. Do you recall how much the tune was at Willall's? Even if it was for only 3 hours or so.

Cheers.

You can drive the car to nistune, he'll remove the ecu, fit the daughter board and you drive home after hours for around $330, then get a Willall tune done, I was quoted $400 for the tune, my car is getting done as soon as I get a night off to go to slurry downs

Yeah I think a Willall tune was around the $100-$120hr mark would have to double check but that nearly halves the price for install and tune ( I think the chip and install is around 370 mark)

Maybe there might be someone on here with an spare ecu that they could lend you for a couple of days while you get your tuned?

Maybe if you contact NIStune you might be able to organise a quick turn around on the chip.Or if you know someone good with electronics you could get them to solder it for you?

They come with a factory (base) tune also so the only downtime on you ride will be while you get it chip'd

Thanks for the help guys,

I should have probably mentioned that I already have the NIStune chip sitting on my computer desk, taunting me.

So driving the Surrey's to get it installed would definitely be a last resort. I was kinda hoping to get a Tuner to install and tune all on the same day as I usually work 6 days a week and don't want to be running around all day on my day off.

I'll call the places you've all recommended and see what the go is for Price/Availability.

Give Mike Dale a call - http://www.yellowpag...80-listing.html

Tell him Ryan from SA Rally sent you.

Gave Mike a call, He was a top bloke and gave me a quote of $800. That's more like it!

He said he's a bit tight for time due to the Classic car run coming up but he can squeeze it in if I decide to go with him. Just waiting on one other quote closer to home but if that turns out similar to the first quote I got then I'll be going with Mike for sure.

Thanks for pointing me in his direction Ryan!

  • 1 month later...

+1 fpr the guy from Nistune to install the daughter board, i paid $650 for the chip and tune from Willall coz im special :P

and i pulled more power than expected which is awesome

Defiantly the way to go, I had mine installed by Matt directly. Mind u i only lived 5 mins away at that stage.

He charged me $150 for the EPROM and install, however i was fortunate enough to have a pre-installed 28 pin socket. So we simply swapped the old eprom with the nistune.

To be honest, if you're handy with a soldering iron, take a crack at installing it yourself. It's not exactly difficult. I was going to do this myself, however when i noticed i already had a socket installed i figured why bother its already done.

I had mine tuned by turbotune, the tune cost around $350.

ps. WDUP SHELLY :P

How did it go? I'm keen to get mine done soon. I'm thinking that getting Nistune to do the chip and then finding a good tuner will be my best option...

Wen't ok mate, ended up getting Turbo Tune to do the install and Tune, but then they recommended a new fuel pump as well and I've seen a few small annoying issues come shortly afterwards. Ended up making 180Awkw with NIStune and Walbro Pump. Might need to take it somewhere else to get sussed out though, I'm sick of it choking in a higher rev range.

P.S cost all up ended up being $1k.
