Hey guys,

Im goign to explain it the best i can, btu tis pretty hard..

im car is suddenly stalling on me as of latley..

For example .. if im in 1st and i bring it to the friction point or just off it and give it a rev to just under 3 grand so i move up my drive way about 2 meters and then push the clutch in .. the revs seem to drop down to almost 0 (about 50 - 100 revs)

Now to explain this abit better..

I was drivign down the street, i was in 3rd gear . and i put my foot down to hit about 4 thousand revs.. and as my blow off vavle went off .. i pushed the clutch staight in all the wat to the floor.. and the car stalled itself

Now what ia causing this problem, I have an external blow off valve so im thinking this may have somethign to do with it..

But then i some times think the clutch could be playing up?

Thanks for your help

I've got the same problem.....

Sometimes when coming to a stop I press in the clutch and the car either stalls or the revs drop very low to almost stalling point than pick up again....

Its been doing it since I've had a Turbosmart BOV fitted so I think where safe to assume that this is the cause.....

How Ironic, I have a Turbo Smart Type 2 Blow Off Valve installed.

Also ive noticed recently, and i dotn knwo if its related.

My car use to have a starting issue, like i would go to turn it over, and it will keep kicking, so i turn it off and back on and it kicks and the starts up and slowly rises in revs..

however, as of lattley it has not been doing this, it is kicking first time however the revs rise straight up to 1200, then drop to 700 then go up to 900 and then slowly bounching down to 800 like as if though a ball was bounching.

would this be linked?

get a mechanic to look at it, my stock 33 with stock bov had this problem. they did a full check of everything, changed plugs, checked ecu, chcked lines, oil and that stuff couldnt find anything wrong but it fixed the problem, they also checked timing, sworn nothing was weong but it came back perfect. so it might not be the bov, try with stock bov and see if you have the same problem?

i think ill just raise the revs up to 900 and see if that fixs it..

i have problems with mechanics, they always **** me around .. my car was serivced last thursday

since that time ive had..

flat tyre (he said he checked the pressure)

one headlight not working (said the headlights were fine)

this stalling problem

Now correct me if im wrong, but shoudnt he had picked up these problems in the service?

Just to add my story...I recently bought my R32 with a HKS SSQ which is probably the most notorious of all atmo venting Bov's. Now the stupid thing was stalling up the wazoo for several months before it got fixed and no-one could work out what to do, short of removing the damn thing. Same scenario, i'd be coming to a sudden halt and the revs would drop out so quickly the car stalled...most commonly when coming to lights and or braking suddenly. It even happened when dropping to low speeds around roundabouts which was quite dangerous to say the least. My car also didn't come with a breather which is the connector hose that recirculates back into the engine from that little spout at the bottom right corner on the rocker cover. Once this was fited and in place - problem FIXED, AND i'm still running the HKS bov. Now this is just one solution.

I read recently in Speed issue 9, which had a great article on Bov's. They say another symptom of stalling is possible with Air flow meter equipped cars... The following is a direct quote from an excerpt in the article.........."Another good indication of incorrect Bov adjustment is a weak spring setting where the valve can be pulled open at idle , potentially confusing an AFM-equipped car and therefore, its ECU. Fuel is added into the engine, in error and the engine stalls. Unfortunately this has the nasty habit of happening at traffic lights".

My car is running an Apexi Safc also and has been dyno tuned. It used to run heaps rich, poping and farting flames out of the exhaust, but since the breather it has been a lot better. I'm assuming the HKS SSQ spring setting has been adjusted correctly because overfueling rarely occurs ( I still pop flames occasionally) but my car never stalls now. Hope this helps!

This subject pisses me off a bit, i had a hks bov when i bought my car but its was stalling so i got the mechanic to look at it before i actually bought it and they took it off and problem solved although at that point i didnt know anything about turbo cars and bov's. so they took it off and now i cant get it back. They so jipped me. :P

  • 1 year later...

My car has the stalling problem as you guys have discribed too but I still have the standard BOV. Here is a link to a huge thead about this problem one idea was to ground the fuel pump but it would probably burn it out over time so I didnt do it. Have a look.

BOV is a blow off valve. mine does it too. I reset the ECU and it seemed to fix it for awhile doesnt seem to do it too much these days but I went through a stage where it did it all the time. I also have a HKS Sequential BOV Its caused by over fueling isnt it?[/QUO

how do you reset the ECU if you dont mind me asking as this car all new to me, thanks
