  • 3 weeks later...

I'm sorry for this stupid question but whats the difference between stock R34 front bumper and ZTune? Google shows that they look identical.

Stock R34 GTR.

Nismo R34 GTR.

In built bonnet lip spoiler on top of the grill.

Front grill sides are more angular in shape for more aggressive look.

There are 2 vents, one on the side of the front bar.

2 extra vents next to the indicators.

The vent under the indicator protrudes out for more of an aggressive look.

Nismo Z-Tune.

Similar to the Nismo front bar, but vents next to the indicator have been removed.

The vents under the indicator have been revised, as it protrudes out further joining on to the lower vent making it a 1 peice.

Thanks, bud. I've read the advertisements but how much difference does the Ztune bumper make? Honestly, I feel that the stock bumper with a few fabricated sheets (to channel the air) would be as good and whole lot cheaper. The Ztune hood is CF and that's fine but I prefer the hood with the NACA ducts. Probably the only Ztune parts I would buy are the fenders. As a matter of fact, my setup would almost be like that white 34-R above minus the Ztune bumper.

All, good and personal preference I guess...

The Nismo Z-Tune website says it effectively guides air to the engine and brakes, which what the stock and Nismo front bars do as well.

So it's more just for looks, I think.

Cosmetically the Z-Tune just looks more aggressive.

are you serious your worrying about air channeling on a different front bar? -.-

I can imagine tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars was spent by Nissan paying it's engineers and doing wind tunnel tests on these front bars, so why wouldn't you use that information when choosing a front bumper? rolleyes.gif

So you got the front bar, but still looking for side skirts and rear pods?

Sorry, didn't notice your question.... I didn't get an email notification.

Actually, I've since decided to get the Z bumper. As a matter of fact, I'll grab the whole Z-tune set minus the sideskirts. I'm even looking at a CF trunk and spoiler.

    • Absolutely this. Yes, except not vacuum hose. Something oil/fuel safe is a better idea.
    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
