I have a 96 GTS-T S2 and when changing gears quickly into fifth (and sometimes third) while the engine is at over 5000 rpm there is almost always a crunching sound. I have driven many cars and never had problems with crunching gears when shifting quickly so I don't believe I am the problem.

Is this an indication that a previous owner has thrashed the gearbox?

What can be done to fix this problem?

Thanks guys, maybe i'm just not used to the bigger gearbox. Only had small cars before this and haven't really driven alot of medium size manual cars but sometimes it does seem almost impossible not to get that crunch unless I slow down my shifts.

You probably have, but if not, Tried changing your clutch fluid and checking your clutch if it needs replacement?

Im in the same boat with my R31.. Its only in third downshift though, which is weird and makes me think the syncros are worn and in need of replacement.

Did a clutch fluid change and bleed, and a gearbox oil change at work today and found a fair bit of metal in the gearbox.. But it did improve the performance of my gearbox/clutch brilliantly! And instead of crunching when doing quick shifts it now is nice, smooth and quiet. exept for the downshift into thrid. Rev matching does seem to improve the quality of the shift, but ill still get that crunch feeling through the gear stick.
