Hey everyone,

The left xenons finally failed a few nights ago. It started to flicker just slightly few weeks ago but got gradually worse over time and now it doesn't ignite.

My initial thoughts was the ballast but I might be wrong. I haven't tried swapping out the globes yet, just wanted to ask if anyone has had this problem before.

I have contacted Ben from NSP but he's never heard of failing lights before.

Anyway suggestions?

thanks,

+1 for ebay

its D2R standard (as mentioned by mike) which is an internally shielded bulb but its exactly the same as the D2S (minus the small shielding in the bulb). i ordered 2 cheap as D2S 6000K bulbs but they arrived as D2R. didnt bother me, fitted fine and light output is the same.

i picked 6000K because i find it looks pure white without the purple, blue or yellow tint

My NM35 Stag has HID Xenons, and for some reason they work fine for about 30 minutes, but then one will 'go out'. Usually if I turn the lights off and then turn them back on again, they re-strike and keep working but after a short period of time, one will go out again.

Is this a sign the bulbs need replacing, or is it the ballast?

I had the exact same issue with my C34. It was the left hand globe and it seemed after they got warm, it stopped working. I put in second hand globes 2 years ago and it solved the issue, so yeah, short answer, globes.

Hi wht510. I recently just changed my bulbs on my NM35 Stagea to 6000K D2S (retained the OEM Ballast). I got them from Max Vision Australia.

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
