Hi, to all of skylines guru out there.. Kudos..

To begin with, my cooling system condition is pretty bad.. sendiments, gunks are everywhere in the walls of the rad hoses. But even so, I have no overheating problem whatsoever, but my radiator is leaking, hence losing coolant, noticed it and decided to get a new radiator instead of fixing it.

anyway, so Im planning to flush my cooloing system.. I am changing all my cooling system parts, thermo, radiator, hoses..

But, what does the radiator place exactly do when they reverse flush a cooling system? is it worth it for $99?

I was planning to

1. take of the thermostat

2.put the housing back, use the garden hose gun connect it to the bottom hose and start pumping through water until it goes clear..

Probably not going to take the drainage plug out since it really is a bitch to take out..

is it good enough though? I bet they will have a fancy gun that will connect perfectly to the hoses or somehting, but is the pressure that they are using are far higher than a garden hose pressure? do they use special chemical, coolant, distilled water, instead of tap water?

so yeah is it worth it?

any opinion would be much appreciated..

you can use an over the counter radiator flush and run that thru your cooling system and then use the garden hose to clean it out, when i do that i then run rain water thru the cooling system to get rid of the corrosive hard water thats now in your cooling system, remember to turn on your heater in the car to get flush the core

I would (& have before) get the shop to do it, as long as they are reputable.

They will reverse flow a cleaning solution (sometimes heated) through it at high pressure.

By flowing backwards & at high pressure they will remove more than you will with a hose.

If you were just replacing coolant & noticed it was dirty maybe use a hose (although I'd still use the shop) but seeming you are saying there's some major gunk in there & you're fitting a brand new radiator I wouldn't take the risk of filling it up with shit.

The shop will also ensure the system is entirely bled, has correct ratio of coolant to water, is pressure tested, electrolysis tested, etc...

They SHOULD also use distilled water but check with them beforehand

For $99 i reckon its worth it.

But if you dont, that drain bung isnt as difficult to get to as you might think.

Heck, if your car doesnt have ABS you can get it from the top with a couple of long extensions and a bendy thingy :)

I found this out by accidentally removing it.. (yes that sounds odd) I was re-installing a stock turbo on an R33 that had a GT30 on it. I didnt look close enough and assumed it was a blank and the GT30 had been plumbed some other way. lol :domokun:
