Hi all,

I'm a Skyline newbie and recently purchased an 1998 R34 GT-T Neo as I have always wanted it for a long time!

Small problem though, after reading alot of posts and doing research regarding Mines ECU's (yes i know, after i bought it already!) I want to get rid of the ECU as I want to prevent any possible damage to the engine (ignition timings, different RON ratings in Aus, locked and no support in Aus etc).

I have no idea what the ROM settings are tuned to, and did not get a response from Mines in Japan either (as they are probably not interested in providing support to second-hand users, but gave it a shot anyway). Didnt have a chance to dyno yet, but will soon.

I was considering an upgrade to an Apexi Powerfc, but I cant afford it at the moment ($1300+) not including tune (bad timing - lost my job, and rego/bills due soon!!) Would it be a wise temporary decision to replace it with a stock ECU, tune it (if necessary) and later upgrade to a NIstune piggyback or power fc and sell the stock ECU? Im using this as a daily car, and dont have any other vehicle atm so not really after power gains at this point - just need reliability for now.

I'm noticing drops in performance, noises that sounds like bad lifters (even after recently being serviced - usually at cold start, but not as loud when engine is at operating temp) and running rich (due to ECU) with poor fuel consumption. I notice a strong combination of oil and petrol smells also and popping/ slight shaking especially when down shifting. Struggling with power on higher rev range on all gears (although boost is at 0.6bar) - feels like somethings holding it back . I had trouble keeping up with my friends civc d16 NON VTEC for example!!

My current setup (when purchased)

- Stock engine (not sure but possibly upgraded light weight pulleys or flywheel installed, gear changes and rev drops faster than stock)

- Mines ECU

- FMIC

- Tein Suspensions

- K&N Pod Filter

- 18" Works Emotion Wheels

- running minimum boost ( no boost controller) and stock recirculating BOV

purchased new set of yellow jacket coils (got them just in case)

Any recommended suggestions? I have a budget of roughly $400-$500 to fix this

P.S. Also can anyone recommend a trusted place for a dynoshop in Sydney? I was considering JC Racing in Botany for tuning also as its close to home. Anyone been there or have experience?
