Tech night explaining entry level motorsport covering things like;

-Different catagories

-Explain the rules and regs for different catagories

-Car choices

-Basic modifications to compete

Prob a few other things that could be discussed but i think that would be a good start.

wow thats such a good idea, i bet duncan wish he thought of it. :D

and as for the membership, i'm keen but it will have to wait till this drama with my lude is over. :)

oh man I am being stitched up good tonight!

Seriously though, intro to racing night with a couple of sample cars to pore over, and a quick overview of different categories and realistic budgets would make good night.

How about a theory based circuit night?

Something where people can ask a professional driver or two or three about racing lines, car control, setup advise etc etc.

You could run one before the eastern creek day so people can get some theory advise before heading out to the track....

Boz was looking at running one for trackschool, could easily be converted to a skyline specfic thing too.

Can you imagine it?

If you turn left and it goes rattle rattle your bearings are gone.

Turn right and the oil pump makes this noise "crack pop pop bleh"

hehe

Let me know the date :)

Any questions or main topics anyone wants us to focus on?

IMO A big point should be that simply whacking in some forged slugs and rods won't make an engine bullet proof.

and making a point that the machine work/clearences is 99% of what makes an engine survive and not those $$$11ty HKS pistons

basic maintenance?

Brake pad change and bleed

Coolant flush

Plugs change

Fuel filter change

Fuel pump change

Brake master cylinder change

yep they're pretty basic but i think a night which covers common consumeables for skylines now that they're getting a bit long on the tooth would be great. Especially for some first time owners??

This get's a big +1 from me. It may be basic stuff to a lot of people on here but for some us it would be a great starting point. One of the reasons I joined was to give me access to people and information that I just don't have in my normal circle of friends ( to many inner city tree hugging hippies )

I will be attending every Tech night I can but I'd like to get my head around the basic stuff first. I'm reading as much I can but you can't beat practical teaching.

I don't suppose there's any chance they can be filmed?

*Crosses fingers*

if they are please make em available to interstate members action-smiley-069.gif - id gladly pay for recordings of these :)

I would actually die for something like this to happen in perth, the only way I can learn about this is for me to buy a cheaper car to work on and just jump right in and hope for the best confused.gif i tried a short weekend tafe course on basic car maintenance but it was useless really.

    • Just one more post to show the final result and the original "janky" solution for a laugh. Everything feels really tight and no wobbling at all, very pleased 🙂
    • After drying a few days, time to put her back together
    • The hot exhaust light will come on not from just the cat being blocked, but it's just a temp sensor, and it's designed to warn you to not do things like park in long grass.   If you've been pushing the motor a bit, it can cause the light to come on.   Second if the cat is rattling, I'd suspect it's not blocked, but instead falling apart inside.   The easiest "fix" until you can get a cat put back in, is to unbolt your one, bash the rest of the insides out, and then bolt it back in.   For a daily driver/street car, I am in agreeance of put a cat in the car. If it were race car I wouldn't care if it were removed.
    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
