Trent,

You mentioned the tuning will be at D1 Garage using dynojet from Willall Racing. Will Signal be tuning Keirs Drag GTR too? Wonder what they would redo on the current tuning by Mike. I know Mike would love to see what changes if any they would do a map...  With mike, im sure there isnt much changes to be made.

details are only in planning stage hence the mention of possible dyno hiring, the GTR of KEIR is tuned to the same standard as any other car in the rh9 world. this car is an top example of australian planning and construction this car is set-up from begining to end in their particular style and it works, mike tunes this car and is one of australia's finest, so no i'd say it doesnt need a thing.

id compare their set-up to any of japans top drag outfits without a hesitation. LOOK AT THIER TIMES.

Who exactly are PSI talkin about? Im not too quick tonite...

enrico I don't think you are the only slow one tonight

(after reading this thread again :)) I think a lot of points has been raised, misunderstood and passed aside. I don't think any point has been settled at all.

What a waste of time :)

I'll take my hat off any time to Martin and some of the members on this thread for what he/they have to done for the community. So I hope no offense is taken for the comment.

Correct me if I am wrong here, tuning a street car is a lot more time consuming than a drag car and possibly more difficult to please the customer too. Drag car tuning is mainly at wot. Whereas street car involves wot, partial throttle, acc and decc fuel/timing etc. It's even more complicated when you have so many permution of branded mods and custom mods. You don't expect to drop it to a tuner for a few hours or days and expect excellent result expecially for just a dyno tune. It's a working progress for a perfect result. Steve, just be cause Bai can tell you those things by looking at your maps doesn't mean that he is the best tuner in the world does it? It just shows that he knows about tuning. Anyone locally MAY be able to do the same thing.

Correct me again if I am wrong (so much pressure when there are so many experts here :kick: heheheheheh). On top of that most of the EMS or equipment used in the community is sometimes not ideal or incomplete or worst inferior. This will make it even harder for the tuner to please the customer. If you don't believe me on this, why don't you get a motec system with wideband, egt and logging software and see what martin can do if you pay him $1500 for tuning;) Wouldn't take you long to tune with these toys, would it martin?

BTW How do you rate a tuner as best tuners? Do you rate them on the basis of cost, max kw, drivability, communication, reputation, lead time etc etc

Tuners have different approach to tuning too.

How can you compare tuners? Wouldn't this be a personal thing?

If you are that good and accurate at judging the tuning skills of the tuners you will have to be a bloody good tuner yourself in my book :)

:wavey: when will import drivers learn to stop whinging :D

sorry if I :slap: hehehe

see you at the next street meet every body

:wavey:

9krpm, which thread are you reading?

Bai isnt even employed by signal as a tuner, he is one of signal's D1 drivers, and a mechanic with them - I know this, so I cant see why I would even call him a tuner.

I think a lot of points has been raised, misunderstood......

I think perhaps you may be guilty of this also.

The point I was trying to make, that one of their mechanics, knew enough about tuning of japanese cars, that, just by looking at my hand controller for about 30 seconds pegged the tune pretty much spot on - I have never seen a mechanic do this before? have you. If this is what a mechanic can do, I am expecting good things from Signals head tuner (not Bai) - especially when you consider they will have full laptop programming and access to base fuel maps - note this is not just FC Datalogit.

I am damn sure, given a FULL tune, using the correct software, by guys that have a proven track record (signal), and show to be very, very competent at tuning these cars (signal's head tuner), that I will have a killer tune, and my car will run better than it does now. Not just at WOT, but everywhere - there is no where else to get a full laptop (not just fc datalogit) tune - nowhere here anyways, and that is a fact, as no one here is an Apexi excel dealer, and given access to the full tuning functions available only through excel software.

So, no one locally can do the same thing.

C'mon guys, lighten up.

To me, Skylines, Supras, 180SX/200SX, WRXs, Silvias (turbo versions of all listed cars that is) are simply the best value performance cars, best potential for upgrading and most fun package on the road you can buy, it's as simple as that, nothing to do with any "import scene" wank. Aussie cars are simply too heavy and Porsche/Ferrari/Lambo too exxy.

So this whole toss about the Import Scene is just secondary flog and in my opinion anyone who gets into the whole Jap perf car wanky "culture" bit, Jap performance parts for-the-sake-of-it and stickers and shit is not serious about performance cars and genuine modifications.

So Steve, this thread is about this Signal bloke who is simply a well known engine tuner from Japan and it will be great to see him come to Adel and show us what he can do with an engine tune. How has is degenerated into scene stuff? :flower:

Perhaps its just me but im having trouble reading and understanding what is typed out. :blah:

The big question is.... after Steve gets his killer Signal tune will we THEN get to see the Steve mobile hit AIR to back up the dyno queen numbers :D hehehe Just jokes mate ;)

Trent, can you get James to sponsor Steve with a set of sticky rear Toyo's? That way he hasn't got an excuse to not give the drag strip a go. Thanks mate :D

Ok everyone lets all put lots of peer group pressure on Steve to give the off-street drags a go, just once!

Well it IS about time.

There is no point having a decent combination, properly tuned, and then not giving it a trundle down the strip. It SHOULD go 11s straight out the box at 120 something that car. Forget the TOYOS they dont make a decent drag orientated radial. Instead go down your local tyre shop and actually BUY a pair of BFGs. Great on the road too!

Well I spoke to James yesterday - he is trying to bring the Signal guys over around the time of the next drift day. So around 15 May. Bai, their driver will be coming too, so with luck we might get to see him thrash James car around Mallala for a couple of laps.

- now, how to see if I can score another ride with him:)

Yep Martin, I agree on all points. Notice how Steve went right-on-by though. See what we're up against Martin. Steve's proving a hard nut to crack! He'll give it a go eventually. We just need to give him enough incentive :D

Hey Steve, would you give it a shot at AIR if I could organise a magazine shoot of your car? Say in Cosmo or Cleo, or some girly mag like that ;) Maybe even New Idea or Womens Weekly.

Steve, my point there is that for a street car, tuning will take a lot of time to get a perfect result. The map you have in your car is a work progress of many tuner's times and efforts and probably your times and efforts too. Just because one person have a look at it and suspect a few things doesn't mean a thing about their organisation or the local tuners here.

I have no doubt that Signal has got excellent tuners. I just don't see a correlation between Bai's discovery and the quality of the signal's tuners

(Yes I am aware that Bai is a driver from your earlier posts. Sorry if I misread anything too, it was late last night and I was at work)

Hmmm.... yeah ok fair call Steve. IMHO it'd still be nice to see you run your car at AIR, especially once it's been tuned by the gun Signal tuner.

nah, its all good, just farking with you - what a dull place the forums would be if you couldnt do a little whoring from time to time:)

Stevesn just upset cos u r whoring his thread, but we all know he whores everyone elses...

Anyway...

I think this is a good idea, i hope everyone just calmes down a bit, re-reading this thread, there is a lot of anger in the air... Steve, one question thou mate, what happens if u spend he 1500 only to discover somethin happens or is needed to tune the car, ie new actuator is needed to tune the car for higher boost, afms max out (i know not likely), bad batch of fuel... Basically theres heaps of things that can go wrong. So what im gettin at, how long will the signal tuner be here for incase somethin happens to one of the cars that is meant to be getting tuned?

    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
    • Wow! how times change 2017 $15k seems expensive... now $30-$50k is the price.
