im having trouble with the R31 i have in the back yard.... its decided to limit at 2000rpm and have been told its the AFM but when i used a test light only one pin in the plug produced power....

does anyone know what or where to problem solve this

The connections inside the AFM would be brittle and have failed - you're in 'limp' mode currently.

Cut the silicon around the top of the afm off and resolder the connecting pins.
