NSX is starting to look a little old in the tooth, don't get me wrong I would still love one but compared to this

post-84258-0-50540600-1316679616_thumb.jpg

it does look old fashioned.

EDIT: Keeping in mind that the above body kit costs around $20,000 lol

The NSX was a game-changer. It forced the likes of Ferrari to actually consider delivering a decent vehicle rather than the mostly appalling crap that had to date.

It was a special period for Jap cars, the Lexus was born, the GTR re-wrote rules, and the NSX made a Supercar usable daily and reliably. And don't discount the NSX as a Supercar, on it's day it most definitely was, despite only packing a V6.

thats the one with the 4cam 32 valve engine right?

If so yum

What the one with the Lotus engineered heads in the motor? As if Lotus know anything at all about engines other than how to fail timing belts and burn oil.

As for the NSX looking old in the tooth - ofcourse it is. It is a 20 year old design. Atleast it was never really fashionable so misses out on the period peices - although the full width reflective strip on the rear is very 80's.

nah mate, come on, they're good things! The engines were cast and assembled by Mercury Marine using then-new lost-foam technology.

I'd LOVE one! (although I'd throw up every time I got in it, the interior is awful).

The block is alloy as well and nothing is common to other 350 Chevs. You cant bolt the heads to any other block etc, all they share is the capacity with other 350s. I would kill for one, and the later model interiors of 1900+ are better then the 89 ZR1s which had the old square dash. For that matter then 89 ZR1s only had 385hp, so with the better interior you also get 20hp more.

yeh, ok still a pretty horrible interior no matter what year model :)

And its a Cosworth Chev...so a good thing. If it was a Cosworth Ford then it would burn oil and all the fluff you associate with POS Fords :)

Yeah I know. I was just shitty because only yesterday I was looking at a series 8 and realising I could actually only ever fit into the fat shtbox Corvette parked near it.

how did we go from an underpowered road car with sublime handling setup by one of the most famous F1 drivers ever... to an overpowered yank boat engine with $5 of scrap metal bolted around it and no brakes!?

actually f*ck that, what I really want to know is why can't I get my hands on either one at a reasonable price in Australia!

Fair question.

I guess the NSX's are expensive because they have held up well and are a cut above the usual Honda/Toyota/Nissan/MItsubishi offerings.

There was once a really good video of Senna trying out an NSX at Suzuka (I think) The way he used the throttle through the corners was damned impressive. Worth looking at if anyone can find it.

is that the one where he's driving in loafers and they have the camera on his feet?

the way he drives the car... so laid back but absolutely balls to the wall at the same time... loose but fast, love it

Yeah that is the one. His driving was brilliant, his dress sense - notsomuch.

I had it stored somewhere (pre Youtube) but cant find it now.

    • I think a lot of you hit the real issue, these brands aren't making cars at a competitive price. Lucky that Foxxconnnn didn't buy Nissan otherwise the cars would be built by 13 year olds doing 15 hour shifts like iPhones. This reminds me of British Leyland. 5th largest global manufacturer in 1968, collapsed by 1975 with only a couple of brands escaping to be owned by Chinese brands today. Along they way they vacuumed up MG, Jaguar, Daimler, Rover, Land Rover, Austin, Morris, Wolseley, Mini, Triumph, Riley, Alvis,  Yes, they had other problems but the basic issue was the wrong production (and therefore retail) price. If you are a car manufacturer and you haven't noticed China coming, its already too late.
