Hey Guys.

Ive noticed a few people rated the N/A R34's as a shit car. They reckon they have nothing against the Aussie 'falcon or commodore'.

At the moment, i own a R34 N/A 4 door, with the only really power mod being the Exhaust with the following:

- Hi Tech Extractors

- Venom 200cpsi High Flow Cat

- Lukey Performance Exhaust

My mate has extractors on his 2003 XR6, and i ended up beating him by a fair car length on the legal quarter mile, i got the lead at the start because the XR6 is a bit heavier.

Then after the start, we were pretty much going the same speed the whole way, so then the end result was me beating him by a good car length.

On corners he has to slow down a terrible amount, when i can turn them pretty smoothly at higher speeds.

Although i never thrash my car ever, this was merely for testing against the XR6.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS RECKON ABOUT XR6'S VS R34'S?

was it auto vs auto, or manual vs auto, or manual vs auto? that will alter the outcome. but just because you beat him on one run doesn't mean shit. when i took my magna to the drags i beat a r33 GTS-t in one run. as for how hard he can push through corners, a lot of that comes down to the confidence of the driver.

100% agreed. I went on an SAU cruise not long ago when I had my N/A R33, it was damp on the ground and through the Dandenong ranges I was going quicker than most of the other cars through the corners and I had stock EVERYTHING, keep in mind every other car was turbo or a GTR. Maybe it was because I knew the roads, maybe they had too much power and being damp didn't want to risk putting it to the ground. Didn't really prove anything out of that night at all.

People rate them as a shit car because people like you post up threads like this.

I dont know what that has to do with the car being shit powerwise?

i have hardly saw threads on 4 door skylines, your brother being one of them with his old N/A 25gt, i know him.

people rate them as slow cars compared to commodores and xr6's, when they can at least go the same.

yeah that is true, i was just pointing out what we done.

both 5 speeds. we had another run after that and the same result. to prove more we swapped cars and pretty much the same result.

it wasnt to prove historical stuff, its just r34's are proposed as having a low power rating, when the NEO engine that goes in them is more powerful than an average rb25 in 33's.

although the wieght is a factor,

TBH I did find this somewhat interesting. It would be better if you had some time sheets to compare.

The other thing is that commodore/falcon ratios are much taller and such even though you may be on top of him over short distances you'll probably find the falcon has a much better top speed.

although the weight is a factor,

I don't really care much what car a person has, whether it be a Corolla or a Corvette.

If he's keen to take care of it, services it, & respects his car's limitations as well as his own, he has the makings of an enthusiast.

One thing you've learned is the influence of the weight factor (speaking nothing yet about brakes and suspension).

In 5 years time, look back over this thread you've started and relay to us what else you've learned by 2016, and by then we'll all know if you are an enthusiast.

And one more thing: I'm sure your learning curve will be steeper as you join up and come to various events!

although the wieght is a factor,

well that says a bit. the manual falcons and commodores are pretty hard to get off the line cleanly because of the torque (wheelspin easily) and the tall ratios (easy to bog it down if you don't fry the tyres). the v8 versions are even harder to get off the line cleanly. first gear on them is basically only really usable for parking.

out of curiousity, what sort of times were you and your mate running?

Or maybe it's becuase no-one else was racing, because it was a CRUISE on PUBLIC ROADS..... Oh, and cool Stary Bra... Is this why we keep the door locked on the NA section?

Sorry bra didn't know it was illegal to do 80kmh through a corner rated at 70kmh within an 80kmh zone.

Oh no!! >_<

If that is your version of superior handling please don't get in the way of my jacked up 2.5 tonne Patrol. It would be sad to see you driven over.

At least you are obeying the speed laws.

What are you even talking about?? When did I ever mention superior handling? In fact what I was talking about was that I had more courage to push it in the wet through corners than SOME (not all) drivers and it doesn't count for your car being better than anything else based on your courage alone. What part of stock as a rock NA didn't you understand lol, their verging on boats even with aftermarket suspension.

    • Hope your all having a mean Xmas! If anyone happens to know any trick to using the insanely complex climate control system, I cannot get it to not be on dual zone no matter how many times I deselect it (will say it's not but both vents blow different temps). Also one side is always hot, one always cold 🤷
    • I'd be looking at the mentioned EFR kit, room to turn it up if decide on e85 (which we know you will) and be super responsive and fun on the street. OR https://v8roadsters.com/product-category/engine-conversions/engine-conversion-lsx/engine-conversion-lsx-nc/?srsltid=AfmBOorrJa2S76JR5ekXprxBOtU44a1UProbe64YaiVi9zTVp1Lj814w And add whooshy noise for extra fun C5 corvette prices are coming down locally here and a mate has a manual one and is a heap of fun on the street and track.
    • I have an Elite 2500, honestly most of this has been a lot of smaller tasks chasing little details and a whole lot of life getting in the way of bigger projects. I don't mind too much looking at a spectrograph vs having audio knock ears.
    • Nah nah nah nah. Don't do it. It's not all about the full throttle power delivery. The main "street fun" and drivability gains from smaller rear (in this case) is how you will have boost available from a low rpm when yo just roll onto the throttle. Think jinking in and out of traffic, coming out of roundabouts, etc etc, where you just want to roll onto the throttle a little and have the spooly noise from ~2000rpm and a swell of torque. More of what you've already achieved by going to 2.5. And then, towards the tail end of 2025 you can pull the turbo 4 out and put in a V8 like we originally suggested. :P
