I don't really care much what car a person has, whether it be a Corolla or a Corvette.

If he's keen to take care of it, services it, & respects his car's limitations as well as his own, he has the makings of an enthusiast.

One thing you've learned is the influence of the weight factor (speaking nothing yet about brakes and suspension).

In 5 years time, look back over this thread you've started and relay to us what else you've learned by 2016, and by then we'll all know if you are an enthusiast.

And one more thing: I'm sure your learning curve will be steeper as you join up and come to various events!

well stated, thanks mate.

TBH I did find this somewhat interesting. It would be better if you had some time sheets to compare.

The other thing is that commodore/falcon ratios are much taller and such even though you may be on top of him over short distances you'll probably find the falcon has a much better top speed.

thanks for being interested, yeah mate thats a good point, when we tested on half a mile, he did come up on top by about a quarter of a car length. probably because the xr6 delivers higher amounts of kw than the r34.

well that says a bit. the manual falcons and commodores are pretty hard to get off the line cleanly because of the torque (wheelspin easily) and the tall ratios (easy to bog it down if you don't fry the tyres). the v8 versions are even harder to get off the line cleanly. first gear on them is basically only really usable for parking.

out of curiousity, what sort of times were you and your mate running?

yeah your right there, the holdens and fords are pretty hard to get off the line. even the auto's are hard to. they tend to get more power out of the 3rd and 4th were the skyline lacks.

the times were pretty close, he was running low 15's when the r34 ran high 14's. some might laugh at this result, but don't forget we are testing lightly modified N/A's here. Pretty much raw engine power without turbo's or modifications.

wtf is with "bra" and "Are you positively annoyed friend?" and "come at me bro"???

is this "cool kids" chat for internets??

im sure there is many a thread about these things, but having said that. some cars are just lemons right out of the box, and others are freakishly fast. maybe your on either end of that scale. and as much as a N/A liner is a slug, as long as its manual and driven well it will def get moving well enough. not that i'd ever buy a non turbo liner myself, the money is just toooo much. but thats just me...bra?

werd?

at the fact that someone changed my post......yeah, someone needs their mod privileges removed. how can anyone believe a single word in any post if people can just come and alter them??

sure if it was obscene or plain wrong then remove it...but don't mess with peoples post for shits and giggles. doesnt say alot for the maturity of said person.

'low 15's when the r34 ran high 14's. some might laugh at this result'

Nothing to be ashamed of , mate ran a Stagea 260rs with minor mods and only got in the low 15's , I would be happy with a NA r34 running high 14s , need to run my car though soon , I would only expect to be cracking into the high 14's

I would be comparing top speeds more than anything. Too much to compare between 1/4 mile times, but the speed trap will give you a fairly good indicator of power to weight etc. Again there's a few variables, but realistically it's a better comparison.

yeah trap speed will give an indication of power. if the car has a good speed but poor time then it means either the driver can't get it off the line cleanly (or the car is hard to get off the line cleanly), so things like better tyres, etc, would greatly benefit it.

I once watched 2 different shades of paint dry... you get the point...

i own a 33 GTR thats got plenty of tasteful mods, so yes these are slow compared to turbo's.

this was a test to look at something different than speeds with a turbo, it is measuring the actual performance of the raw natural aspirated engine that bears modifications compared to a turbo car.

if you think your funny, just take your humour somewhere else please. ....you get the point....

thanks mate, some actual good feedback.

the r34 hasnt been tuned yet, ive focused more on my 33 GTR, but i guarentee if the 34 has some tuning work done specifically for the quarter it would get some good N/A times.

would love to hear some results from your V35 on the quarter, i have always been curious :).

People rate them as a shit car because people like you post up threads like this.

Why are people calling my car a boat??? I barely drive it. Just occasionally on sundays to tug a Supra in to port. :teehee:

both 5 speeds. we had another run after that and the same result. to prove more we swapped cars and pretty much the same result.

it wasnt to prove historical stuff, its just r34's are proposed as having a low power rating, when the NEO engine that goes in them is more powerful than an average rb25 in 33's.

although the wieght is a factor,

By a whopping 7kw factory rating.. and your car might weigh about 20 more kg than a 33.

    • Gents, it will be getting the MX5 Mania kit and the 2.5 will be staying where it is My query was about the 0.64 or the 0.86, whilst the 0.64 might spool a bit faster, would the 0.86 be better IRT EGT and mechanical sympathy, with only a small difference in spool And as I assume I won't need alot of boost to get to 200kw, probably around 10 psi, and with max rpm at 6500, would high EGT even really be a issue with a 0.64 I'm heading into MX5 Mania at the end of Jan to discuss the install, so any info is welcome prior to that Basically have a chat and book a time so they can throw on the turbo kit, and fit a oil cooler with a thermostat, drive in drive out of course  In other news: just finished cleaning the car inside and out, it's now all ready to get covered in bugs and dirt driving to Goulburn tomorrow to lunch,  and go for a stroll along woolondilly River with the daughter and her boy, and of course, visit my grandcats and my new grandpuppy
    • Sounds like it has an actual problem with mode select doors, or something.
    • Hope your all having a mean Xmas! If anyone happens to know any trick to using the insanely complex climate control system, I cannot get it to not be on dual zone no matter how many times I deselect it (will say it's not but both vents blow different temps). Also one side is always hot, one always cold 🤷
    • I'd be looking at the mentioned EFR kit, room to turn it up if decide on e85 (which we know you will) and be super responsive and fun on the street.
