Thanks for the input everyone, getting some very valuable information and personal reflection of the combinations out there.

With a 6boost manifold, 50mm turbosmart wastegate and a garrett gt3582r it has set me back $3300. Oil and water kit was $80 and I still haven't got a dump (quoted $150 to $300) or cooler piping (at least another $100) or screamer pipe. There is already around $5000 of supporting mods to get it working right and the motor hasn't been opened yet. If you are set on a genuine garrett you will have to double or triple your budget to get a 'proper' setup that includes injectors, computer, tune, fuel pump, intercooler and exhaust to run a big turbo. And that is a minimum just to run it. You'll need some very decent tyres/wheels to hold the grip and a beasty clutch to hold the power too. A stock clutch will die out the arse and 225 tyres wont last as I'm sure you already know. For the budget it sounds like Hypergear will be the go for you. Well priced, easy to install and makes good power.

In regards to Room42's post. I am well aware of the supporting mods to go with the high HP/KW output. I have a list already set up to get the supporting mods. The replacement of the turbo was mainly because If anything was to go first, it'd be that component. Everything else on my car is well maintained and up to scratch. I COULD settle on an ECU as my first contribution towards the set up as I could get it tuned as such and still be able to run my current components. I have an excedy HD clutch installed (by previous owner) yet I'm inclined to either strip it down or send it away for repair (which ever works out cheaper in the end) because the syncros on 4th are starting to grind and not engage smoothly. That being said, it's still quite acceptable to drive as it only happens intermittently.

What I've gathered so far is:

1. Forget those kits if I want a quality set up

2. If it's garrett, make sure its 6 (twin) bladed compressor for the GT3076R

3. There's other high quality substitutes with good performance

I have to ask though, why would some people say that an aftermarket (6boost etc...) manifold would not be worth the upgrade? I can only see a boost in exhaust flow and performance increase... unless the pipings too big to create a good velocity in air flow or the pipes are different lengths...

I'd personally would do the computer first. It will make it better as is without swapping anything else. At the end of the day I wouldn't want to settle for what I could afford in terms of turbo setup. I'd just buy the good bits that contributed to the final result and keep saving till I could get there. Its a lot of money to spend in my opinion and should only be done once. But thats just me. Its only advice.

In regard to tyres...I'm still running the stock turbo (only for another couple of weeks) and still have standard tyres. I can launch in 2nd and smoke it till 100kph. It will lose grip in second from a roll. It will spin if I dump it in 3rd at 100 but not for long. That is with only 190-200rwkw or so. I can only imagine what will happen with another 100 to 150 rwkw. Titan I'm curious and with all respect, how the hell do 235's hold on to a gt35r. Must be semi slicks. I did read your post. You did say gt35 tho not gt35r. Maybe thats it.

If you can turn tyres in 2nd with a standard turbo you either have the chesapest nastiest rubber known to man or the tyres are bald

Haha maybe they are a bit cheap. They were $135 each. I think its the 2nd most nastiest rubber known to man. But seriously they hold better than the neutons that were on there before. Definitely not bald. I did mention that it is around 200rwkw.

255's won't hold on my hyper gear. But everything you said is the reason I ditched garret.

Im not poking shit or anything, but why would this be a good thing? lol.

My 255 Adrenalines will hold 300wkw in 2nd. (GT3076 @ 17PSI)

It seems to me that we are comparing apples and oranges. I have stock turbo, suspension, rims and tyres that barely hold 200rwkw. Other blokes have different setups. either your have super extremely sticky tyres or your turbo must be very lazy coming on boost lol

semi slicks (federal 595RS not some cheater R comps), 15psi in 1st (holds on fine to redline unless its sub 10c outside at which point there is nothing i can do make it hold), 2nd 17psi, 3rd 17psi to 4500 and 20 psi to redline, 4th & 5th 20 psi.

i run 0 camber on the rear with fairly stiff coilovers (however they are set a lot softer on the rear)

if i change the boost ramp so it goes from nothing to full 20 psi from 2500-3500 it will let go in 3rd at 100km/h no problem, amusing but that doesnt make for a quick car or long tyre life, with my setup like that a stock turbo @ 200kw is faster to almost any legal speed for the street as there is zero traction without babying it or shifting early in every gear.

as for the turbo room42, GT35/GT35R/3540/3582/3582R = same thing.

Yes true. If we are talking about only garretts the yea Titan is right. But if I had a stick up my arse then I would go on to say that the "r" at the end means bb. I originally made the comment because a china turbo could have a significant spool problem that would allow for better grip.

I'd do ECU first. Then get some injectors, a new fuel pump and the turbo (I'm assuming you already have a decent front mount and exhaust).

I'd say most people are saying don't bother with the manifold as the stock ones will flow plenty enough for your goals. I'm not sure of exact limit, but I think they are capable of the kinda power you're chasing.

Manifolds are a fair way from the top of the list when it comes to mods for a streetable car.

My 6boost manifold was posted last friday with a 50mm turbosmart wastegate (Thanks Kyle!) and I already have a genuine garrett gt3582r with braided oil and water lines sitting on the kitchen table. Already installed in the car is a 255lph walbro, 950cc injectors, full kakemoto 3 inch, exedy hd clutch, lc1 wideband, power fc, 100mm thick frontmount, z32afm and a fully sick subwoofer uley. So what am I sposed to be getting over??? nyaanyaa.gif

I think the 3582R is too big for a 2.5L motor. I had one and I sold it. Some people run them and make crazy power with them but you need to run in excess of 24psi through the motor. The question is if your motor is unopened, you probably wouldn't want to push a 3582R through it.

I then got a 3071, has slightly better response than the 76 but also makes nice power(should get 280rwkw fairly easily). I then ditched the 3071 because to make the garret fit needs more money and more work and to run it at its peak needs a whole new setup(probably best with a new mani, external gate setup). I ended up going with a hypergear which has brilliant response, delivers more torque than the garret 3071 and also more power for the same boost. This ant it also bolts straight onto my existing bellmouth dump, no spacers etc, no external gate, stock manifold is fine.

Consider the hypergear turbo. My full low boost comes on at about 3400rpm and high boost just a tad before 3600rpm. If you had a 3582 expect to wait 4krpm. Believe me when I tell you, you do NOT like the feeling of turbo lag. There have been the times where even this turbo feels laggy. I try to get into traffic, see a car coming from behind, floor it in 2nd and it really does feel like you are waiting forever before it comes on haha.

What setup did you have player?

I have a worked motor with a 35r and it is NO way as laggy as your setup. Boost by 4200-4800
