Email nistune themselves and find out who in your area can do a nistune for you.

A stock tune and the module etc wouldn't set you back much more than $600, a wideband alone is what $400?

I really wouldn't waste your time, if you continue to mod your car an SAFC won't be good enough, might as well do it once do it properly, will get a much better tune with a nistune or powerfc etc.

That will be the plan if im unhappy with the results of using the safc 2.

I just noticed your in Wellington. Me too.

Anyway, i was going to avoid posting in your thread basically because as much as people are telling you to steer clear, you have your mind set.

But just as one more bit of local advice, i had an SAFC2 in my R33 too. I had mine Dyno tuned, AND road tuned. Basically, as someone stated earlier, all your doing is trimming fuel and the ecu will trim ignition to compensate. Its a lose lose situation, as in the end you might make more power, but you'll end up running dangerously lean.

With my car, on most occasions the car would get one decent run in, and then it was almost like the ECU would freak out and pull timing everywhere untill the next re-start.

Andre had mine on the dyno after i had mine Dyno tuned elsewhere, and it was running "Lean for an N/A" as he stated it.

Not to mention when the weather warmed up again, it started to detonate like f**king crazy in the higher RPM area. So i ripped it out and threw it away.

If you go down the path, post up your results anyway. Ill post mine here for you to show how little it did for the danger it caused.

So it def helped a little bit, but id say 80% of that was due to timing change.

Good luck.

Heya thanks for that. Are you Turbine on the Skylines Down Under New Zealand Thread? Ive been following your build up aye.

Yeah well its just that because I have seen some of the guys on here run safc 2's with upgraded turbo's I thought I would give it a shot. If it drives fine and I am happy with it then thats 3k I dont have to fork out for a link g4 and dyno tune or power fc and tune. Would be nice if someone in wellington tuned nistune but aparently not so If I am not happy with the safc 2 I will use my spare 300zx ecu and get a nistune daughter board and tune that. And if I need a 300zx afm I also got one of them lying around so will use that if I need to.

Yep thats me :)

A G4 can be had for under $2000 :)

And, i have a special someone that is pretty excitable when it comes to tuning new skylines. So if you do go down that path im sure he would be more than happy to have a play with it.

Iv had the G4 in mine for the best part of a year now, and since the GT30 went on, it hasnt seen a dyno.

How far along is your SAFC so far? i didnt notice the dates.

Cancel that.

Must be the way he has the dyno set.

My car Stock Turbo vs Lithium GT30: (Better add that its 3rd gear for the stocker, and 4th for the GT30.. speed cut hehe.)

Thats what hub dynos seem to look like over here \:S

Really? I imagine they would have less 'smoothing' due to being a direct attachment but doesn't that just point to the tune being rough? Those are some pretty damn big spikes!

Wow thats cool. Ill have to check out your thread on SDU NZ. Last time I looked you were still running stock turbo. Thats cool as to know then ay ill keep that in mind.

How much did you pay for a G4? Im still torn as to if the safc 2 doesnt work out what to get lol. I would love to get my hands on a power fc but they are rare and expensive when I see them. The main thing thats so attractive about the G4 is that its local and everyone knows how to tune them by the sounds of it lol. I really want to give it a shot myself ay.

Safc and RSM are in the car all ready to go. Currently Im waiting for my mate to finish the Catch Can and Exhaust as I was still running a stock dump pipe. Also tryna find someone that can paint and play with fibre glass as I got some GTR Style End Caps that need to go on and a little drift wing to. Then its wof cert and reg lol.

I believe the G4 i bought was in the area of $1700 + $100 for an IAT Sensor.

They are really great ECU's. For the price you have to pay for an PFC and a hand controller, IMO your far better off with a Link. And the local support is fantastic.

Wow thats alright ay, Last time I asked someone for a qoute I think they told me like almost 2000 for just the ecu. Have you ever tried to tune one or play around with one?

Every weekend :P

Awww ay thats cool. Would like to definatly learn! Whats the learning curve like? Did you teach yourself by reading of the net? Or do you have mates that know alot about tuning? Id definatly be keen to learn and get to know the sdu nz crew ay.

Link is definitely a better option than a PowerFC still a lot of money though, email nistune and see if they know of any tuners in your area.

Yeah im definatly gonna email nistune and see what they say. I definatly would like to give the whole tuning thing a shot myself. Nistune might be a good start if the safc2 doesnt work out.

Thanks for that! I would love to hear from some of these guys and see what they thought of overall power and how their cars drove with the safc2 and turbo upgrades etc.

From what I've read it sounds terrible, high risk of blowing your motor up from detonation if you push any amount of power out of it, if you are conservative it almost isn't worth even using an SAFC. If you don't own a wideband and knock ears ($2000+) then don't even think about attempting to tune this yourself.

If you don't own that equipment then spend the $2500 on an ECU that a local tuner is competent with and can tune safely. If they don't own knock ears or a wideband don't ever go back.

Tuning a turbocharged engine is not something you skimp on, you can very easily blow a motor up if you don't have experience and the proper equipment to make sure you aren't running lean or detonating.

Just been looking around at the g4 plug ins today and they all seem to be $1895 for just the ecu. Where did you manage to score one from for the price you got it for?

    • The easiest option might be to just spray a bunch of fish oil in there.  At least that way you can feel like you've done something while you continue to ignore it
    • I'm firmly on the "zero compliance is good compliance" for FUCAs. I'd be looking to solid metal joints even if the primary reason for having them is because they facilitate the twist in the arm. I have never been more happy with the way the front suspension behaves than I have since I got rid of the FUCA bushes. Even the thin little (short lived) poly bushes in the Whiteline adjustables have too much compliance for my liking. It probably won't be long before I have sphericals nearly everywhere, probably including both top and bottom arms in the rear, and I'll start complaining about the increased costs for dental work. But I will be enjoying the driving more, I'm sure.
    • Plus, you'll get great experience in bedding in pads!
    • I have offset Nismo brackets so the fact the gktechs can pivot is less important to me. I have 170mm JIC arms with bushings - but they provide no adjustment and I'm not sure whiteline eccentric bushings will fit them (I don't want to ruin the bushings currently in them to find out). Ideally I want something with bushings + adjustment; hence why I'd like to find a pair of these. Unfortunately they aren't easy to find.
    • @Vee37 How much do you really care about finding these pads again? If your pads are quiet, work well and produce minimal dust, really isn't that enough? If you are set on finding the exact pads again, I suppose I'd do something like this -  Visit your local Jax, find out what brand of pads they carry. If the Jax workshop you previously went to had the pads on the shelf, then you can almost guarantee it will be of said brand.   I'm guessing you don't have the receipt for the previous work and pads. Can you visit a Jax workshop and see if they can look up your previous job to see what pads were fitted?  Still no luck? Put your stalker hat on, find the staff that used to work at the Jax store and ask them. Talk to local workshops, try to find out where the mechanics went to. Talk to Jax workshops, maybe they relocated to another workshop. When it comes to mechanics, its a small world. You'd be surprised how easy it is to track someone down. If these ideas don't work, shit will start getting crazy very quickly.... You could find out every brand and model of pad that fits that car... and try them individually ticking each off the list if it wasn't the one you were looking for.... If you go down this path your going to want to learn how to swap pads yourself, it is very easy, takes minimal tools and space. If you have room to park the car you have room to swap the pads. Plus you have the advantage of making sure all the brake hardware goes back in so they won't squeal!
