Anyone heard of this, maybe even tried a pre-production model?

Been looking at the eos600 or NIKON d5100, but saw this POP up.

Doing more research, it looks pretty good on paper.

Has a lot of features is like in a camera.

Would rather pay the extra, but thought I'd get opinions first.

So, thoughts?

Don't know yet, us$2000 with lens on sonys website.

They don't even list it on the Australian web site.

So probably grey.

Sony aus doesn't list the a580 either, so I'm a little disappointed with the Australian range.

Same story as always, we always miss out on the good stuff.

Sony sent me a retail newsletter with the A77 in it. Looks like it will be available in October.

That's what everything on the net points to.

But still couldn't find anything on their website.

Did the newsletter suggest an Aussie rrp?

My birthdays in October, so it must be a sign.

Hey mate, check out:

http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Sony-Alpha-SLT-A77-Digital-SLR-Camera-Body-Only-DSLR-A77V-SLT-A77V-p126151.htm?utm_source=TopBuy_MyShoppingComAu&dismode=1&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=TBDF-XX86319

I haven't purchased from here, but I know thats a good price for the product.

I didn't read into it much, but at that price, I'm assuming it is overseas item even though it is .com.au website.

It might be worth reading into their warrantys, but because it is a .com.au it is an Aussie based business and should be more helpful than the standard (hong kong/china etc) online shops.

The amount you save from buying locally you should be able to spend on shipping for the warranty. Again, only spent about 2 minutes looking into this and thought I'd let you know.

Also, you can pre-order the item from Teds:

http://www.teds.com.au/sony-slt-a77-body?utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Digital+Cameras&utm_term=Sony+SLT+A77+Body

It says "Due October" but it might be an idea to call up Ted's and ask for a date seems you are paying so much for the item...

Anyways man, hope I was able to help!

Thanks wilorichie.

Teds is one of the Aussie websites I was talking about offering preorder.

Camera house also has a statement that says will be released October.

As stated, wasn't on sonys website(Australia), so I sent them an email asking about it.

Reply came as, "we are unsure of the release date or if the product is going to be released into the Australian market".... (along those lines)

To which I replied as to the Australian resellers offering preorders for a product they weren't sure they were going to release?

Checked the Sony aus web site the next day, BOOM, product listed as out of stock.

Rang Sony today, couldn't tell me of a release, just kept saying, "on our website its out of stock".

Yep, and before my emails, there was NOTHING on YOUR website about this camera.

*end that section of rant.

Sorry, just don't like when the official product representation/staff don't even know what's going on, because they don't have access to the information they should.

Back onto the topic, looks to be an awesome camera.

Can get from ebay, with warranty supplied by sellers, but would like to try and keep it an Australian purchase.

Thanks for reading all of this, and thanks for all the help.

I've put the feelers out and sent messages to the people I know at Sony, and they're gonna get back to me (sorry, only sent the messages yesterday arvo, been busy with work).

Could always send an email to the senior manager of marketing for Sony Japan? :P I've got his business card, met him in Tokyo... Nah, I wouldn't do that.

SOFT, jk

but seriously, thanks for putting the word out.

people i spoke to at sony, didnt even know it was on their website.

then answered me with, "it says out of stock on the website".

i replied with, thats because its not released yet.

im getting excited just thinking of it.

all i want is a confirmed date from the manufacturer....

is that too much to ask?

haha, i know. the funny thing is that there's so many damn arms/branches of sony... it's a bit confusing at the time. know the XBA (new headphones) launch that happened recently? i was there, was pretty cool, we had an earthquake during the Q+A too. but yeah, emails are out, and we'll see what i can find out, if they wanna reveal anything :)

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
