My dyno sheet looked like that when my intake pipe was sucking shut or even later just not providing enough flow. Builds nice up until a certain point and just a flat line after that. To me that says something is restricting airflow once it reaches that amount of airflow.

I would be surprised if it was the turbo itself because that would be a very strange turbo design to achieve a graph like that. Not to mention the other Hypergear turbos of the same variety do not look like that at all.

Sarge' car mainly got a powertune due to cost of dyno time and his last experience(cost) with his last tuner.i have helped him out with cost at a loss to me and we still have to do a road tune to get better fuel economy.

Yeh it wasn't a crack at you or any other tuners, it's just how it is. I understand that tuners are busy and setting the light load cells up for the road is not something that most tuners worry about, they just get it to run decently with safe AFR's and then the work is in the rest of the tune. I imagine if tuners started setting up this area of the map fully, then customers would simply start complaining at having to pay more and not getting their car back quickly.

Jesus, they're almost identical!!

Hanaldo, I don't suppose you have a dyno graph from your tune at allstar do you? Might be pretty interesting to compare.

I just can't help but think that I'm missing something, even if you disregard the actual power figures there is a BIG difference in the shape of the graphs between SimonR32 & my graphs & almost every other graph I have seen for these turbos.

I do, I've been meaning to upload it since I got it haha. Haven't had a chance yet, scanner is still packed in a box somewhere unsure.gif

Your graph does slightly resemble my old tune at Hyperdrive:

As soon as it hit full boost, power just started dropping off. But my new power curve from Allstar looks nothing like that anymore, it looks like most of the graphs that Stao and others have posted up.

Did you change anything between Andy's tune & Seans or was it just the tune itself that made the difference?

I really don't think my tune is the problem, Sean is a gun tuner & I have 100% faith in his skills.

Nope, didn't change anything at all. While I was at Hyperdrive we tried everything; dropping the exhaust, checking the intake piping, checking coil packs, checking fuel, checking for leaks of any sort, pressure testing the intercooler, comp testing the motor... Even went as far as getting Stao to replace my turbo with one he had tested on his car, he literally ran it on the dyno to be sure it made the power then pulled it off and mailed it to me. Nothing made the slightest difference. Spent so much money changing things and checking things and paying for dyno hire.

Then tried taking it to Sean. Bam, instant change. I however also do not think Sean is your problem. With Andy, he was never keen on me using the Hypergear turbo. He just doesn't like them, and when we weren't getting the power he instantly blamed the turbo and said it was dodgy results coming from over east, nothing more. Sean was perfectly happy to use the Hypergear, and asked plenty of questions about my setup and what I was expecting. Then when he gave it back he said the turbo probably had a bit more in it, but he wasn't too keen to wind up the boost on the stock motor.

Well I might chat to Sean & see if he remembers how he tuned yours, there has to be something I'm overlooking. Will try a few things when it's on the dyno tomorrow.

While you're at it, ask him if he can still fix my hot start issue for me :P

No wonder ur getting 600ks to a tank. Ur running it on fuel vapours. 16.5-1 is pretty narly

Can't see any dangers under low load? As long as EGT's are ok and the car isn't surging. It sounds like he has set his throttle transition enrichment up well, so it's only lean when it's cruising. I've seen a lot of cars running even leaner than 16.5:1 on cruise.

Hybrid cars and new Eco cars use the same theory. My dad's Honda Insight sits between 16:1 and 17:1 when cruising.

It's funny chasing economy. Leaner than 17:1 on my car needed too much throttle so went back to 16:1 and played with timing until I had the smallest thottle % needed to maintain 110km/h.

Worked well for me

Does anyone think my dyno readout seems flat at all? Note this is running the SS2 turbo. Boost can be seen at the bottom, all the lines are brilliantly straight, no dips or sags which are of a concern. Just doesn't seem to show the power it should on the dyno...

I want to test restrictions as people are suggesting here. Problem is I don't have so many gauges and I don't have a dyno at home(I really can't stand doing this shit on the street, risky, dangerous, starting and stopping etc). Does anyone know if ANY dyno shops hires out their dyno or is it only some of them?

The Dyno Dynamics graph is the OLD tune, the mainline is the current.

Yep it is a bit. But the car is happy there. Any leaner than 17:1and it will start to surge. Plus I dont have egt sensors in each cylinder or any for that matter. I dont want to run any leaner till I get them installed. I read that the sidi commodores run around 18:1 or thereabouts at cruise.

From what I read more current engines cope better with lean cruise mixtures and a number of things have changed to cater for it .

EGR was always an effective way of running lean mixtures without excessive combustion temps but not used on RBs I believe .

Cylinder heads have changed in the cooling jackets to pull a bit more heat out from around the hot side of the chambers and exhaust ports and in some cases the spark plug bosses . This is not so much to just cool the engine its more to do with localised hot spots that can at times promote detonation .

With the GTt version of the RB25DET I suspect Nissan sought ways to run a little leaner at idle and light loads for emissions and consumption . The above mentioned cooling difference sometimes allow a designer to have more advanced ignition timing with lean mixtures and its possible the chamber and piston crown differences in the GTts all help in this area .

Maybe except for the std mapping the last version of the RB25DET is probably the best spec one to have given a choice .

A .

e85 results from current FNT G3 on stock engine with all bolton gears internally gated. Tune is a little retarded as owner is refusing to more power. Got plenty left. Need better boost controller or external gate also.

So will not work with the standard airbox then? I'm trying to keep my set up looking 100% stock under the bonnet

Won't work. and don't try. How ever you can drill couple of holes on the lid and run it with no filter.

Either way whole point of having a 4inch inlet is to run a 4inch intake pipe with a big pod filter.

This turbo won't look stock anyway. You really need the stock housings if you're after the stock look. I was trying the same thing when I bought my turbo, but between the turbo, spacer plate, braided oil line, and all the necessary custom piping - it's blatantly not stock haha.
