Hey Everyone!

Im after a bit of advice or opinions, all welcome.

Ok i have a problem with my car R33 skyline GTST. s2.

When i take off in 1st or even when im in 2nd or third just after i press down a touch on the accelerator it dies and then kicks back in. So if i gently ease on the accelerator around 3grand or so the car will die and if i dont move my foot it will kick back in a few seconds.Doesnt happen everytime but 80percent of the time. seems to be around the bottom end of the rev range. it will push through if i put foot to floor but is sluggish.sometimes it will spit and splatter around,if i put the foot down a bit it will push through it and come better, somedays it will go a little better then others. It wasnt as bad and seems to of gotten alot worse. I will post a video when i can get a chance to record it.

I hav new plugs and splitfire coil packs( 6 months old). AFM has been clean and working fine, fuel pump is 6months old. TPS has been checked and is fine. Its been to a mechanic and we both had a look at it, he did a fuel pressure test and pump was fine,it didnt effect the pressure when the car carries on. He has had a look over everything but said it could be a number of things its a matter of eliminating them one by one. Injectors are my next check. May have to purchase new ones as it is 350 to be clean and tested.

Mods are pretty basic. exhaust, front mount, greddy plenum, splitfire coilpacks, profec spec B II boost controller (10psi) turned off though so should be running stock, walbro pump..

It started a few weeks ago when i had a flat spot at the top end of my rev range and i did some research and gapping plugs to 0.8 seems to fix it. After pulling my plugs out and gapping them i had this slight issue that got worse and worse so i regapped back, still had this problem so i got new plugs back to 1.1iridiums that i had at the beginning. problems still there. mechanic reckons it was a coincidence and is not a plug issue..

Help and opinions much appreciated.

I don't spose there is water in your fuel tank by any chance? Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint electrical issues, especially when it runs fine sometimes and crap others. Find someone with a skyline that will let you swap parts over to see what is wrong. Put all his good parts on and then swap yours back one at a time till it plays up and there's your culprit.

if it revs in neutral but dies/struggles under load it is a fuelling issue.

It won't be injectors it will most likely be AFM which i know you said you had changed but i would swap with someone for 10 min to test it. If this is not a constant thing but an intermittent problem i would look at wiring for the afm, however if its just every now and then specifically when you put your foot on the accelerator a bit you are looking for a dud wire somewhere as thats when the motor kicks a bit and shakes things up if you have a pod on there and not the standard airbox bolted to the car.

Give us a bit more info and we may give some more clues. ECU supplying the wrong fuel can be from vacum leaks meaning afm is inaccurate, it could be when going from closed loop to map etc etc.

I may able to borrow a mates skyline and swap AFM etc.. ill post a video in a few hours.. I did the re-wiring for the greddy plenum 6 months ago(aac vlave iac),TPS wires extended. it may hav become loose or something.... The AFM was cleaned when the plenum was done and iv checked the afm and its squeeky clean.. ill just hav to spend a day checking everything i guess.. thanks guys

    • The more I think about it, the more I should probably go with a genuine Bride seat and rail set up. But damn the $$$ for a driver and passenger seat + rails!
    • From what I understand, stock internals should hold out for a while even if you run 500 at the crank, no? Especially if you don't run a modern turbo setup that reaches power and torque much earlier than the original twins. My engine isn't unopened either, it has N1 Pumps, head oil restrictor, new crank and cams, new piston rings, ARP head studs and Cometic headgasket along with 2860-5s. Considering everything is healthy this should run fine for a while I assume. Once my engine stops leaking shit everywhere, it'll be tuned to 370 crank first anyway, because I need to legalize the turbo setup. If I end up needing a new engine because my block actually has an issue, even though GTSboy was adamant that the whole porous block story is nonsense, before putting an engine in I'm probably gonna take care of the weakspots.
    • Hah, I have no issues with what you are doing whatsoever! You clearly know what you are getting yourself into. It's just funny reading things like this. "What's that noise?" "Oh, that's normal. That's just the engine not getting any oil. Nothing to worry about. It'll go away in a moment"
    • Yeah I'm keeping an eye on it and might take it out as a once off if this doesn't fully charge. I did some research that said it's normal in equalisation charging. Voltage I thought was 20+ (faulty battery in multimeter) but now its on 15.9v, the max it should go to is 16.2v as per the manual. I'll provide an update once hopefully it's actually fully charged and in float mode. Waiting for it to go to 16.2v and not higher and see what happens. What I suspect has happened is that even though it's not an old battery, I did leave the car turned off for almost 4 weeks at one point then left it off for another 2 weeks which might have erroded the battery and is taking a long time to do this equlisation charge.
    • I wouldn't be using the seats a lot since it's on Historic rego and will not be driven a lot, however I also don't want to fork out 3k for something that won't last. Havent looked at BRZ seats, aiming for something of the same era I did speak to him on the phone once, and I do see your point haha. How many kms do you think you drove before they started wearing out? Just had a look at yours, certainly looking for a reclinable version. The Brides don't look too bad! I would still like to sit in one just to make sure it's what I'm after.    Thanks for the replies fellas.
