Hey all

This is my day which includes the skyline.

Sooo... after work Im on my way to Lansvale to go get my new shadow boost gauge. In sydney it was really warm. I think it was 29deg or something.

Anyway, im driving the hour it takes to get there. And I feel heatsoak on the car, it was just a hot dry day. I finally get to Lansvale and park in the maccas car park, seeing as I couldnt find the shop I thought I might as well search on foot. I get there reverse myself into a spot away from all other cars, and Im letting the car idle for a little bit, doing my noise check. Noises from a car that appear out of nowhere freak me out. Everytime I hear something new, IM like whats that. Haha.

Well a new noise popped up today, this time i thought something was maybe on its last legs. It was a sort of humming in the car, obviously drowned out on the freeway. I did a hearing check all around the car and ruled out the engine bay, yay, and isolated it to under neath the petrol filler, which made sense coz inside the car I climbed on the back seats and pinpointed to the fuel filler. I dont know why it did that, and continued on the way home.

Does anybody here think that the fuel pump could hum so loud you could here it in the car? Any way for me to isolate the problem?

Also I installed my new boost gauge. I like. especially the fact that I can see how much boost im running, the stock gauge is always past 7. But now I see that im running bang on 13 with no spikes :). But I could also finally pin point when I hit full boost. I start building boost at 2,500rpm then I would achieve maximum velocity at 4,000rpm (maybe a little after. The revs jump really fast after 4000 haha, hard to keep my eye on the boost and the speedo.

I have had a tune so I thought (only by reading what other people post) 3,500. Or have been mistaken all this time?

I saw a white GTT tonight on anzac pde turning at the 711 before alison road. Nice wheel chirpies thumbsup.gif.

Thanks guys. And as usual any help is muchly appreciated.

how much fuel was in car at the time, try filling it up and see what happens to hum, yes fuel pumps can be noisey, espicialy after market ones.

full boost @ 4000rpm, what turbos have you got, my stock turbo 32 is full @ 2800rpm and the 34 with -7s is 3200rpm

Tank was about a 1/2. And once it cooled down I tool the car out for another drive and the noise is no more. I read somewhere that heat can cause this, at least I know now. Not like oh shit the cars gonna blow up hahah.

That's the problem, tried to identify turbos bit need to take all the intake piping off :S. Other than that all I can see is Garrett r.42 m24. Which doesn't say alot :S.

ok so, glad sau is back up and running :). but during that time, i went and tested gauge, and car was running beautifully, which im glad.

I have come to the conclusion that i do hit full boost at 4k, tried my best to look at the turbos, but only saw this

Thats all I see, with the big garrett letters on the topside. :S. Cant wait for my service to come up so I can ask the mechanic to have a looksy.

Coz if what youre saying is true, that full boost is around 2,800 then I want to know what these babies are so I can crank them up :P, seeing as im only running 0.9 bar.

Any one else wanna chime in on when you hit full boost with stock turbos?

Thanks

By my searching and asking around, Ive heard anywhere from 2,800 - 3,500 RPM. hmmm, booking the car in for its 90k service the weekend after next. Hopefully the mechanic can get the tally plate number for me. Are there any other details I can get off the turbo?

Sorry to be a nuisance guys. Just very curious :)

    • I'm not up to date on the latest, but for basic modifications like pod filter, lower springs etc you can get a modification permit at the time of inspection.  For more serious modifications you will need engineering.  Intercoolers used to fall into the mod permit rule but its been a long while since i looked it up.   Either way you will be able to get it registered, just a case of $300 vs $3k .
    • Hi everyone! I’m the new owner of a 1996 R33 GTS-T, I’ve purchased this car over from Queensland and brought it to Western Australia and I’ve found that there is a hole cut out in the engine bay for the FMIC that enters into the wheel well (fender liners are in the boot). For anyone that has had to get their car over the PITS here, will this be a major issue?
    • Yeah I've spotted this one too, whenever it's lotto superdraw week and I'm browsing car sales dot com for my new ride They must be dreaming, maybe it's worth 150k for the link to Brock?
    • 100% accurate!  We are a pack of know it alls....  But, I bet people go to you when they have a problem! I've been on a bit of a clean up rampage too over the past month!  I've thrown more shit in the bin over the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 3 years combined! Anyway, it's all good fun being different! My wife sometimes does not agree!
    • ADHD in all form isn't about "can focus, or can't focus" or is hyper active or isn't etc.   It's all a dysregulation. Either time feels to be stationary, or time just vanishes in a split second. We are either under focussed on the task at hand (as we're over focussed on our surroundings) or we have no idea an atomic bomb went off beside us as we're so hyper focussed and locked in on things.   Not to mention the rapid fire thought process. What it takes a "normal" process to think up a solution to a problem, ADHD will be able to give you 5 different ways to solve the problem, and the pros and cons of each. While we can be highly impulsive and lack the ability to "control ourselves" we can also become paralysed with the inability to make a decision for ourselves. While most of us have an OCD like requirement for perfection, we lack the ability often to remain focussed to get things to a perfect state. Those with undiagnosed ADHD as adults, can often find the last part actually stops them ever attempting to do things that they have the ability to do, as the reasoning is often "if I can't do it perfectly, it's not worth doing"   As for projects... Ha ha ha, I still need to take the other half of my wall trim down in the Fiance's office so I can paint it. Need to finish digging and running the back yard drains, my R33, getting the Ninja bike registered (now being sold), the moped project, fixing either of the lawn mowers so they're reliable, along with a myriad of other things.   It's why I've been going through lately and just being brutal and clearing projects off that I won't actually ever complete. IE, moped will go to the tip, or be given away, bike is being sold, Subaru project being sold, some parts for other projects given away. Or I've been making myself focus on one thing at a time, by ticking off the smallest quickest ones first.   There's also a reason by our mid twenties we seem to be "know it alls", as we've all been down some of the weirdest and oddest rabbit holes when you follow the dopamine trail. It's often also why we're more a jack of all trades, but not a master of one.   However, pretty much all of my hobby projects, in one way or another, all come back around to automotive. That's my zen area.
