hey guys, took my boost gauge off my R33 skyline a few weeks back to pass rego and left the wiring hidden under the dash panel, a mate of mine then showed interest in buying it so i agreed to sell it to him, anyway i took out the wiring the other day(the only wire that came with the boost gauge that i needed to take out was wired into my volt/amp gauge, so i thought fair enough, i disconnected it and the taped up and reconected the other wires then put it all back together, simple. however now my dashlights and taillights dont work, which means i cant drive at night, also my warning beep that rings when the lights are left on isnt working(which resulted in a flat battery cause i left em on) i have checked all of the fuses and its all ok(thoughi heard there may be more than 1 fusebox, i checked the one under and to the right of the steering col.) im am quite sure the wires are all hooked up correctly, so im thinking that maybe i have shorted/grounded it out. if so how can i fix it? but any other ideas oin what it may be?

anyone???

ok heres the update, i checked a previous post and heres what i did, the taillight fuse in the boot was blown, i replaced it with a spare fuse and it blew immediatly, so its the wiring from the gauge right?

the wiring is as follows, from the car: red with blue stripe, orange with black stripe and black.

from the gauge: green wire and a black wire.

there are connected as follows. red/blue stripe and black from car connected to black from gauge, and green from gauge connected to orange/black stripe. not sure if this sounds right but im 99% sure this is where my problem lies, anyone think its connected incorrectly and how do you think it should be done if they are incorrect?

yeah.. tail-lights and dash light are on same circuit.. guess its a safety mechanism so that if your dash light isn't working you know your rear taillights aren't working..

yeah, you've got a short.. just pull it all apart and check the wiring again.. Best to check everything *before* you put it back together too :D

yeah the wires are insulated, so thats all good. it must be the way its been connected, i was sure i had reconnected them correctly but if one is out they r all useless, perhaps black to black, then connect the other 3? earthto earth would make sense and u would have to connect the other 3 otherwise there would be one left out. does that make sense?

hey all, after a bit of deliberation and thought, i decided what i thought was wrong with the lights, it occured to me that that the gauge earth should be connected to the car earth and the other wires should be hooked up together, and that the red/black wire had no place being connected to the 2 earths, i disconnected them then re-connected the earth to the earth then connected the other wires, as soon as i touched the other 3wires together, my warning beep to shut the door sounded...good sign!. so i connected them all, insulated them, then put it all back together, flipped on my lights and immediatly my dash lights came on aswell!!! yay!!, now my brake lights still werent working so a qucik trip down to the servo for more 10v fuses(seeing as i blew all of mine) and once the fuse was put in the boot all was good.....brake lights, dash lights, warning beep, all connected and working!!!

so cheers for the advice and help guys, its all back to normal and i can drive at night without being cannaried.

Andrew.
