Im putting together a twin exhaust system on my sedan. The current plan that has begun construction is:

New flange has been installed between the end of the centre muffler and the diff.

From this flange I will be putting a short Y-pipe to feed a stainless muffler on each side of the car.

The guy at the exhaust shop suggested that I should ditch the centre muffler, start the mid pipe with a y-pipe (single 2.5" inlet to twin 2.25" outlets) and have a pipe running each side of the tailshaft containing long hotdog resonators.

The problem is that the sway bar only has clearance for a pipe on the passenger side of the tailshaft... where as i will need 2 of these clearance bends for a full twin system.

Does anyone know of a swaybar that will allow for a full twin system?

Not sure which way to go with this system now. I want the twin muffler rear end with absolutely NO increase in exhaust noise.

Y pipe after Swaybar??

removing the centre muffler and adding resonators WILL change the sound and make it louder.

Resonators change the tone of the exhaust, mufflers muffle.

id be keeping the centre muffler and having the y pipe after the sway

or have a dummy second tip?

What is the reason behind wanting 2?

+1 for Y pipe after swaybar.

I can refer you to someone who does custom swaybars; they could accomodate your request, but at $300+ you'll want to be sure.

2 tips would look quite good; and 2 mufflers make it easier to damp sound & still have good flow. Look at how many factory setups run twin outlets now; Liberty , Outback, hell even the Mazda3 does it and they're not dummy tips either.

IMO, I hate hotdog resonators; they're cheap & crappy. They are shocking for flow, and the packing usually burns out after a few months.

They are the cheats way out of building a properly designed exhaust with quality resonators and mufflers.

Leave them for the Mirages and VN Commodores...

i dont mind changing the sound, just dont want a noticable increase in dB.

well the new flange is in place, ready for a rear only twin system...

and why twin mufflers? because it is sexy on large cars and makes the rear end look more even... ive got 2 of the stainless muffler on the right to install.... bumper has already been cut to match

the hardest bit is working out what to do with the fuel vapour breather and its pipes.
