hey guys, took my boost gauge off my R33 skyline a few weeks back to pass rego and left the wiring hidden under the dash panel, a mate of mine then showed interest in buying it so i agreed to sell it to him, anyway i took out the wiring the other day(the only wire that came with the boost gauge that i needed to take out was wired into my volt/amp gauge, so i thought fair enough, i disconnected it and the taped up and reconected the other wires then put it all back together, simple. however now my dashlights and taillights dont work, which means i cant drive at night, also my warning beep that rings when the lights are left on isnt working(which resulted in a flat battery cause i left em on) i have checked all of the fuses and its all ok(thoughi heard there may be more than 1 fusebox, i checked the one under and to the right of the steering col.) im am quite sure the wires are all hooked up correctly, so im thinking that maybe i have shorted/grounded it out. if so how can i fix it? but any other ideas oin what it may be?

anyone???

edit: after some advice from an old thread i checked the brake lights fuse in the boot(which i didnt know existed) it had blown so i replaced it and it blew immediatly, does that tell anyone anything? im starting to doubt my wiring job, i think it may be the wrong way round

i have posted this in the general discussion forum aswell, but i wanted 2 c if the local boys have any idea?

Andrew.

It tells me youre wiring is shorting out somewhere... grab a multimeter and go through the wires you played with to make sure its all hooked up and grounded properly :D

thanks nik, will give it a shot, by the way there wires are as follows,

coming from the car: red/blue stripe, orange/black stripe and black.

coming from the Amp Gauge: green and black.

the red/blue stripe and black wires from the car are connected to the black wire from the Amp Gauge.

the orange/black stripe wire is connected to the green wire from the Gauge.

does this sounds cool with u guys or is something amiss or wired incorrectly? i would have thought that the red and the black car wirs shouldnt be connected to just one wire from the gauge, i would imagine that the wires should be coneected in 2's but i could be wrong.

i checked a while ago, there are only 2 fuses in there(the two closest to the front of the car) and they r both fine, i have a feeling a lot of them only have 2fuses, dont know why, but i know this is the case with nismogirl and a heap of others. im pretty damn sure it must be the way i have wired it back up. i'd say i will need to get the right wires going to the gauge, replace the blown fuse in the boot(for t/lights) and it should be fine, but im gonna have to make sure the wiring is right b4 i put a new fuse back in cause i cant just keep blowing fuses.

have you just looked at the fuses or tested them with a multimeter? sometimes they might look ok but won't be. my mates exa was playing up, so he replaced every fuse in it, and all of his stuff started working again, even though we looked at every fuse and they all seemed ok.

just looked at them, seeing as there is only 2fuses i'll just put new ones in, im just positive that it must be the wiring other wise i wouldnt keep blowing fuses, if i blew it once then replaced it it would work with a new fuse, but as its kept blowing then it must be the wiring...no???

hey all, after a bit of deliberation and thought, i decided what i thought was wrong with the lights, it occured to me that that the gauge earth should be connected to the car earth and the other wires should be hooked up together, and that the red/black wire had no place being connected to the 2 earths, i disconnected them then re-connected the earth to the earth then connected the other wires, as soon as i touched the other 3wires together, my warning beep to shut the door sounded...good sign!. so i connected them all, insulated them, then put it all back together, flipped on my lights and immediatly my dash lights came on aswell!!! yay!!, now my brake lights still werent working so a qucik trip down to the servo for more 10v fuses(seeing as i blew all of mine) and once the fuse was put in the boot all was good.....brake lights, dash lights, warning beep, all connected and working!!!

so cheers for the advice and help guys, its all back to normal and i can drive at night without being cannaried.

Andrew.
