Help Boot Wont Open

I have a 96 R33 GTS4 and as title states the boot refuses to open. I don't think it's the lock mechanism because turning the key is no problem. After you turn the key or use the boot release it pops slightly but not enough to open and when you go to push the boot down there is a clicking sound as if it's closing. Any help would be appreciated because this is a real nuisance, thanks.

Get some one to hold upwards/downwards pressure on the boot while u try to pop it with the release lever
