Just yesterday had some car pull in behind me down the fwy and start going nuts flashing his lights, needless to say I crapped my dax thinking my car was on fire or something, turns out he was just flashing the other side of the road about a speed camera.

Seriously, I hate when ppl do that in excess, or when they are right behind me etc.

it is pretty lame to do it for a speed camera if its there all the time, a bit more sensible if one of those random short time vans but still...not while your right up someones ass.

Cops? Nope, don't flash. They're just doing their job. Positive reinforcement I think.

Speed camera with some fat slob sitting there. You bet. That's Australian.

Don't want some poor ba$tard getting a ticket for doing 64 in a 60 zone do we?

what about someone doing 84 in a 60 zone?

I don't know. These days guessing everyone elses speed isn't really my business. I'm too busy trying to guess my speed and the F&*Kwit in front of me.

Can you tell if they are doing 84 in a 60 zone? I don't think I could.

i got warned going into a secluded street in the middle of nowhere out back of austral yesterday, sure enough over the hump there was a highway patrol sitting in someones driveway doing radar, so i cruise by, as i get out of what i thought was range of view see an oncoming bus and a few cars give them a flash to let them know each one aknowledged and gave me a wave of a thumbs up, although the bus might have got me in trouble for flashing back lol,

another thing that shits me off about flashing, you will get people that will flash for kms after the speed camera/police location. that's fine, until you are in a line of traffic with some overly cautious dimwit at the front that then decides to sit 15km/h under the speed limit for the next few kms 'just to be safe'.

Yeah i always Flash my highs, Been pulled over once by a UC typhoon 350 dollar fine for doing it.

this would be the reason most people dont flash.

I've been past a few mobile cameras, and dont recall anyone flashing oncoming cars

What a lot of ppl don't think about is that when you flash your lights, your taillights flash as well!!! So if your still within visible range of the popo, they can chase you and get right nasty.

I don't flash on the main highways [Hume, Princess, Pacific, Sturt, Calder etc] cos you'd have to be a first class unit to speed on them roads, cops, speed camera's and the Macquarie Bank reps are everywhere. I do flash when its on the back or byroads becasue you never ever expect radar on them. But I only flash when I'm out of sight/around the corner to the cops.

And I'm also a bit selective, motorbikes and trucks, normal cars are kewl, but high rollers and late model commodores/falcons [could be cop cars] are out.

I dont know any car that has the tail lights come on when you flash...they are wired to the parking light switch not the high beams

trucks (especially semi's) will already know where the speed cameras and radars are. as for late model commodores/falcons, you need to expand your range. in gympie the cops also had a silver VW golf and a black lancer/evo as well as a few camrys/avalons.

do they seriously have a pucka EVO 10 as an undercover car in Gympie? thats pretty boss.

See the sense in your approach to flashing Trident but whats up with getting fined for it, very uncool and im sure it wouldnt be hard for a decent lawyer or even just a well spoken defendant to overturn it in court. Pretty sure it woudl be unconstitutional in the US to have a law like that, they are also getting rid of their speed cameras over there. .and raising speed limits in a lot of states.

51st state? yes please...

I've noticed the decrease in other people warning on coming traffic about speed cameras/coppers hiding in bushes.

Last time I got a warning flash from a Golf R on Leech highway about a mobile speed camera was about a year ago.

That road seem to have a camera of some sort at every major intersection...

    • Very decent bit of kit. Definitely black it out I reckon.
    • Because people who want that are buying euros. The people with the money to buy the aftermarket heads and blocks aren’t interested in efficiency or making -7 power, they’re making well over 1,000hp and pretty much only drive them at full throttle  best way to way make money is know your customer base and what they want and don’t spend money making things they don’t want.
    • It's not, but it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity regardless. For example, what if the cylinder head was redesigned to fit a GDI fuel system? It's worth like two full points of compression ratio when looking at modern GDI turbo vs PFI turbo. I'm pretty reliably surprised at how much less turbo it takes to make similar power out of a modern engine vs something like an RB26. Something with roughly the same dimensions as a -7 on an S55 is making absolutely silly power numbers compared to an RB26. I know there's a ton of power loss from things like high tension rings, high viscosity oil, clutch fan, AWD standby loss, etc but it's something like 700 whp in an F80 M3 vs 400 whp in an R33 GTR. The stock TF035HL4W turbos in an F80 M3 are really rather dinky little things and that's enough to get 400 whp at 18 psi. This just seems unwise no? I thought the general approach is if you aren't knock limited the MFB50 should be held constant through the RPM range. So more timing with RPM, but less timing with more cylinder filling. A VE-based table should accordingly inverse the VE curve of the engine.
    • I've seen tunes from big name workshops with cars making in excess of 700kW and one thing that stood out to me, is that noone is bothering with torque management. Everyone is throwing in as much timing as the motor can take for a pull. Sure that yields pretty numbers on a dyno, but it's not keeping these motors together for more than a few squirts down the straight without blowing coolant or head gaskets. If tuners, paid a bit more attention and took timing out in the mid range, managed boost a bit better, you'll probably see less motors grenading. Not to name names, or anything like that, but I've seen a tune, from a pretty wild GT-R from a big name tuner and I was but perplexed on the amount of timing jammed into it. You would have expected a quite a bit less timing at peak torque versus near the limiter, but there was literally 3 degrees of difference. Sure you want to make as much as possible throughout the RPM range, but why? At the expense of blowing motors? Anyhow I think we've gone off topic enough once again lol.
    • Because that’s not what any of them are building these heads or blocks for. It’s to hold over over 1000hp at the wheels without breaking and none of that stuff is required to make power
