Hey all,

If anyone here is able to upload or email me their FC Edit tunes, that would be great. I am not going to try use them, or sell them etc I just got the FC Edit software and just looking at different tunes and what not. I tried to compare the FC Edit screen dump of ignition timing to the Nistune one, all backwards and there aren't as many cells in the Nistune so its not easy determining where what what sits.

Have a look in the MAPS folder that FC Edit installs into... C:\Program Files (x86)\FC Edit Universal\Maps

There is a stack of sample maps there.

Had a look through the Nissan ones. They seem to run some pretty big timing throughout and some other interesting settings. But I want to see more realistic figures, with our fuels and local mods etc. It doesn't tell me what that tune is for, it just says RB25DET but I don't know if that is a stock tune as the timing seems fair high for a stock tune.

PM me your email address and i'll send you a few different tunes i've had

Done and done!

  • 4 weeks later...

i have a copy of my tune open in fc edit and noticed under airflow settings, the 3rd column is zeroed out, whereas another pfc has 100 listed in the same column (also under VG30)

im using nismo afms, so the curve would have been re-scaled during tune, what i want to know if whether normal settings on the VG30 is 0 or 100?

100 percent is normal. You can tune large areas of your fuel map by adjusting the values up or down. It affect the amount of fuel that is added at these afm voltages.

and timing.

did you open it with the same version of fc edit that was used to read it from the pfc? is that setting locked?

good pickup, i asked wolverine to help me save the map, he was running fc edit v1.26 and im curently opening them on v1.29

also the tune was initially locked by the tuner as few other settings werent being retrieved, wolverine was able to unlock and re-read it back but the settings were all 0 (not sure if the saved copy i have was unlocked and re-read prior to saving)

im currently in the process of transferring the current tune from normal pfc to pro pfc, however datalogit wont allow my current tune to be directly written onto the pro model, i assume due to different chipset, model and version etc

on the pro fc, we noticed the 3rd column had 100 throughout and the tune wasn't locked, hence my question whats normal?

i managed to copy and paste all the settings across to the pro fc and did a compare with only the rev launch limit and pro fc version string being different - note: 3rd column values of airflow were left as 0 - and we tried starting the car but it would turn over

my guess is, i need to set all values to 100 as the values for the air flow curves (option 5) appears to be re-scaled for nismo afm\\

p.s what difference does differing software versions make?

Be very carefull unlocking the power fc,

If u unlock it then click write i have had a car turn off and lose settings. Had to initialise it and retune, i was out with the guy roadtuning, Not a good feeling breaking down and not knowing why at first

lucky for me wolverine (Andrew) knew what he was doing and saved locked and unlocked copies for backup,

I have tracked a copy of the fc edit manual so going through it currently, will have fc hako hooked up to my wideband by weeks end so I can dabble a bit and get rid of few knock points

100 is normal. if the settings are actually 0 (and not just showing 0 because they're locked or from a different version) the car wont start or run

good to know, I believe due to the lock it was showing 0 the 1st time we looked at it, I will set it to 100 on the pro fc and have no locks so hopefully it fires up

One other thing I overlooked last time was, we did not re-initialize the pro fc prior to transferring the tune to it (late night mission)

Is the idle learning procedure settings actually visible and transferrable via fc edit or is it a case of initialize pro fc, copy tune and then do the idle learning procedure?

yes that looks like someone has unlocked a previously locked powerfc and saved it over the top and not checked the values

you need to be VERY careful when unlocking powerfc's with datalogit. you must double check the values before saving.

there is a bug where when you unlock the injectors that it actually reverts them to bogus values, thus placing your engine at risk.

so take extreme care when unlocking and check the values.

from memory a locked injectors setting once locked, cannot be safely unlocked via datalogit.

ie datalogit can unlock it, but the values are gone. so if you had say a pro tuner in japan set the injectors correctly and locked it, then when you unlock it, you loose the values

Exactly. I learnt the hard way. I even saved the tune before i started tuning, tuned for a while then thought id turn off the lock. Then just cruising along i clicked write and guy looked at me and said, theres no power. I thought he was joking till we came to a stop on the side of the road.

I tried loading the original tune, i checked everything under the bonnet, then thought id try initialise before i called a tow truck. Started straight away. But the original tune was way out. Had to baby it, thought nothing of the lock so i unlocked them and did a bit more tuning, clicked write and bam no power, now that i knew what was causing it i stayed away, had to do a full tune.

Luckily Paulr33 had heard of this happening only a few times, so when i emailed him he could explain it.

Scary

how do tuners manage to unlock maps, do they have a re-enter injectors values etc? what other settings does it affect?

i already have a few backup of my normal pfc tune, if i were to unlock all the settings, are u saying, it will mess it up the current tune or was it in your case not following warning procedure etc

as per fc edit manual, they warn to “Read all” the settings and maps and save the file before you start editing and before you “Write All”, switch off the engine and turn the ignition to “on”

Yeah the car starts fine on the old PFC. I saved every copy prior and after making changes on the first night.

After unlocking the PFC the afm values were 100% once they were written and read back. Since we couldn't copy his old settings into the PFC Pro I copied the locked and unlocked files and a copy of the PFC Pro files to USB.

BWRGTR installed the numbers manually but came back with the locks back on the file to install. All other figures were identical (using compare in datalogit) although due to the lock I couldn't check the afm values. The car wouldn't start after 2 tries so I suggested leaving it alone until he gets to Yavuz. The cost of getting it wrong is high enough. This was all late Sunday night and I was just kicking off a nice flu so I wasn't feeling well enough to spend another 30mins trying different things.
