i have pulled my r32 gtr turbos out.

i am trying to learn much more indepth about turbos.

i have measured my compressor inducer and my turbine exducer and worked out they are a t25 turbo with a 42mm compressor inducer and 41.7mm exducer on the turbine.

this means that my compressor should be a 54.4mm exducer and turbine should be a 53mm inducer. does that mean they are t2560r turbos? because that's what www.ztechz.net/id1.html suggests all the sizes are but i thought it should mean they'd be a t25 54.4R because the compressor exducer is 54.4? where have i gone wrong or do they just classify it a 2560? because there's no reference on the net to a t2554 or t2555? i'm trying so hard to get my head around it all.

any help from someone in the know would be great!

cheers, sam.

Tag numbers on the center cartridge will tell you exactly what they are.

already looked. no tag??? they've been rebuilt with 360 degree thrust bearings and a steel exhaust wheel in 04.

Nope.

The Garrett link is a ball bearing unit, going by what you said - you have journal bearing items.

Sounds like your turbo's just have had steel wheels and a rebuild kit put through the original cartridge or similar rather than the ball bearing Garrett replacement.

is this bad? it cost the last owner $2600 i have receipts. i think that you might be right. so it's a copy of the t2554r's but it's not genuine items?

could have had the factory compressor housings machined and fitted to GT2554 cores. without an ID plate we're just guessing though.

Agreed!

Although if the invoice on it clearly states "journal bearing", then even without a ID plate we know they aint a ball bearing Garrett core.

Do the housings look machined?

Back in 2004 that might have been a 'ok' price, I can't remember exactly when Garrett items of various series came out. I know you couldn't get a "-9" (same as HKS GT-SS) until around 05/06 if memory serves me correct for instance.

Either way now you can pick up such turbos for around $1200ea new. Journal bearing items, 2nd hand, maybe worth $800 for the pair.

Not saying they aren't genuine, just that they are not a ball bearing core.
