if you are new to track days (not saying the OP is or isnt) speed off the streets might be jumping in the deep end a little since whats on the track with you depends on what else turns up. A club day like the december one will make sure noobs and similar performance levels are grouped together closer in terms of relative speed.

True but, I want some experience on the track before the SAU track day plus my boss wont let me off on December.

I work in retail and December is the most busy time of year tired to get it off last year when there was a SAU cruise, the boss did not give me the time off.

Last point is My birthday is the 28th of this month and i wanted to track my car so i thought doing it a week before would be fun.

nothing wrong with speed off the streets days.

Last time I went there was 3 other cars, and was doing 30-45mins sessions.

Much better than 15min sessions with 20 other cars on track

Seems a bit better than having a session stopped because somebody was being a dick and rolled their 808.....

I'd agree with this statement - it'd be much more in your favour to attend one of our track days (if you can manage to wrangle the time off) than just go to a regular "Speed Off The Streets" Day - we specifically run our days so that people with little or no experience can attend and drive together and get used to the track (with experienced instructors in the passenger seat next to you, if you want) rather than have to compete for track space with those who are giving it their all and pushing for lap times straight away.

p.s that wasnt a dig at anyone, just trying to point out ive seen way more stupid things happen at club days over open track days

We've been lucky, and only ever had one incident over the many years of SAU-NSW running track days at various tracks. And the circumstances that allowed for that incident to occur will NEVER be repeated, that's for sure!

But yes, you could turn up at one of the regular "Speed..." days and be just as lucky and almost have the whole track for yourself for most of the day.

pffft

my first track days were open days at EC! no issue with any track day - do what you want dont ask! however thank you for the invite but I cannot attend as Im down there on 30th Oct

:D

It was a bit harsh digging the boot in to the guy with the 808, he knows more than anyone that he stuffed up. And he's not the only one to have caused a delay at a track day - going off, fluid spills, etc.. it happens.

My point was speed off the streets is a bit of a lucky dip and for a newbie doing 1:20+ to start off with that can be a bit intimidating. Club days have a bit more guidance involved. I hope the OP has a good time though and is lucky like you were to get lots of empty track.

As a matter of record - im not sure if SAU usually allows more entrants on their usual days but the combined days we were involved in had a maximum of 45-50 from memory, across 3 speed groups you are probably looking around 15-16 at the most, and usually the day thins out reasonably quickly. It might not be much but 20 v 15 cars makes a big difference.

I've been to open days when groups were >20 and others where they were <5. All Pot luck.

As Gregor said, we ensure our groups are small with similar cars and lots of opportunities for new drivers to get seat time with an instructor.

Also wasn't my intention to turn this into an open debate on events. Just wanted to make sure you knew that SAU:NSW have some fun events coming up soon too.

Hope you enjoy the day.

Thanks for all the advice. I thought I try my luck on the track. True I may learn a lot more if I went with SAU specifically. The thing is the date, anyways I hope to enjoy myself and maybe next year early in the year I may take time off to join SAU on a track day. Its to close to Christmas for my boss to let me off especially on a weekend.

All I can say is

If you are interested in joining me PM me and I PM you back with my number and we can head down together.

If not I wish everyone enjoy them self on the track and be safe

hmmm im there on the 15th for a trackday, still spots left for that one if your schedule permits.
