Hi guys,

i bought my car with an aftermarket air intake in it. i believe it's an apexi of some sort and it currently is unshielded in the engine bay. my understanding of unshielded air filters was that they can be defected in NSW only if they're oil-based, and not if they're dry.

is this correct or do i need to install a heat shield/box to cover it up? also, how do i know if my air intake is dry anyway?

I did this research 2 yrs ago...would be supprised if it had changed.

NSW = has to be enclosed....but u can use the bonnet/guard/headlight as walls.

QLD = only has to be secured properly and can't remember if it's supposed to be oiled or un-oiled.

Yeah the NSW coppers LOVE pod filters that aren't enclosed, it's first thing they check when they ask you to open the bonnet, but as has been said, out of sight out of mind seems to work them.

Nearly all pod filters are dry type and you don't want to go oiling them as they eventually start griming up the air flow meter, which in turn makes the car run like a pig.
