Further to that Leon, the torque figures the dyno spits out are usually ignored as not measured correctly, yet this is what gets our weighty cars moving quickly. I would be interested to see the trap speed of Alex's car now.

I was hoping the Fcon would have some sort of adjustment for the auto but it doesn't seem to Alex. You are right though, without the software to adjust all this we are playing in the kiddie pool.

Turns out we were a little offblush.gif

Things to note (no excuses! but various factors) Unigroup has whats explained to me as a "sad" dyno, not a Happy dyno like Envy Imports, Temp was about 31 or 32 in the cell by this stage. The Run was done in 4th Gear (unlike NM35s who use 3rd because of the speed cut)

Yavuz seriously knows his shit- as someone else had mentioned, dude is a scientist. He whipped out the calculator and estimated 175kw from my previous dyno sessions. Full boost comes on just after 2500rpm, and holds to just under 4 SPI by 6500rpm. That line you can see is 4 psi- sorry my photo is a bit crooked! Its pretty much full noise by about 4750rpm. Very nice flat graph.

AFR's are very conservative- starts at 12.5 and lowers to 11.5 by max RPM

Sorry, don't have a video, because I was in the car with Yavuz, going through the software. Very positive feedback from him re Uprev- comment was its much more user friendly than NISTune, and more set up like full after market (Link G4 / Haltech etc)

Someone must have snuck in and replaced my gearbox with a sponge when I wasn't looking- its gone to shit. I have the classic NM35 3 second wait before it snaps the next gear in manual mode. I believe that I can change this- the ECU has a torque management table - what we did to the base schedule was basically halve it (due to injectors and K value), so this needs to be applied to the gearbox too- the ECU tells the box when to expect max power, and adjusts the line pressures to suit. So thats a little project for me.

Hot start is acceptable- I have to work on cold start, as the car hasn't been cold!

So there you go- I'm a little bummed that I didn't crack 200, however its a blast to drive, the power is pretty instant, torque is great, it is (like every unigroup tune) a very safe and usable map. When done- the price was unbelievable. I actually paid him more than he asked, I thought he ripped himself off- told him to look out for me next time!

projects- plug the o2 sensors back in when its cold- see if the problem remains, cold start tuning, Gearbox scaling (will need mark from Abbeys help hereblush.gif), see how much I have left on the stock MAF, get upgraded MAF and shove 7PSI down it until something breaks!

SCOTTY- got your package today thumbsup.gif thanks. Hope nothing has melted- pinch.gif

Congrats on finally completing the tune Alex, however im a bit perplexed by the dyno numbers, how can the same kit on a manual Z achieve 60 more rwkws? As mine on SAS's dyno got 215 rwkw compared to 243rwkw on a 2006 s'charged rev-up Z. certainly hope our trannys arent sucking up that much power compared to manuals. although i understand that all dynos are different and its not the real performance indicator.

Damn right the auto sucks a heap of power, probably around 30KW off the final power figure I would guess. Did you run in 4th also? That gear must run out to some very high speeds and lower the output a little.

Don't worry guys, you will catch up one day... :P

It will be good to see how it goes with more boost when Yavus gets time.

Since a few more of us use Unigroup it is handy for comparing results between different cars.

How did you go? Mods?

Looks like I'm up for a new WB O2 sensor- melted the shit out of a plug. Think I could just get a new plug? Good opportunity to lengthen the wire, and route it some place a bit more sensible. tongue.gif

Have to wait and see if it'll run in Closed loop I guess.

Got the Turbo blanket on there- not that easy- there really isn't room, but its in there. No chance of fitting any clips or anything, it can hold itself. Installed some great 3M heat shielding all around the place. Stuff is fan-bloody-tastic. Well worth the price. hopefully that'll keep the heat down, and moving away from the car.

Hey Nick,

Meh, dynos are finicky. Until you actually get the cars on the same dynos, in the same conditions, with the same ramp up speed, its all just dicking around. I do suspect that my auto was sucking way to much power- because I would have never hit optimum line pressure in the gearbox- therefore slip may have occurred. On the dyno it was noticeably sluggish- now its almost back to normal (I say almost because It has a lot more torque to deal with).

I wonder what speed it was doing? I was looking at the ign timing table at the time, not the speedo!

6600rpm in 4th....236kmh ohmy.gif

Thats the top speed in gear for a Manual 350z (3.5 final drive) in 5th gear (1.00:1) which is the same as my 4th gear.

Nice work so far. Very interested to see the final outcome.

Have you got the name or part number for the 3M heat shield and cost/supplier?

Cheers

PM Scotty, he hooked me up, it was about 30 bucks a sheet- Foil, over a fibreglass weave with a sticky backing.

How did you go? Mods?

R33 with GT3076 TS ATP housing HKS cast manifold etc, topped out at 290rwkw. I am not sure if the turbine housing is maxed or the wastegate is unable to hold itself shut or an exhaust restriction but it makes plenty of power for my needs so I am not that interested in chasing the last few kw's.

With some boost screwed in there this is the sort of number (excluding some extra slushbox losses) your setup will knock out if/when you lean on it.

I have a few sheets here if you need them, I have tried a few different heat shield materials and this 3M sheet is the best by far. $30 a sheet for around A4 size, a little cheaper if I get a bulk buy.

Is this the one you use?

Well, bit of an update.

Everything is holding together well. Motor has an abundance of torque but not outright power, and much better off the line performance than a "high performance" NM35. ph34r.gif There is no need to rev it out like a NM35. It can pretty much do anything a VQ25 can do with 2000 less revs- but admittedly, it doesn't have the same top end.

Front Shaft went back in, so its awd again. Have ordered a O2 sensor to replace my toasty one. I'll then get into some logging and change a few things around to see if we can run in closed loop successfully. Other 350zs with the kit seem to be able to, so I hope I can too. Again, Mark from Abbey is helping me out here- Champ!

I've got to take about 15% out of the hot start cranking; its too rich.

Wishlist from here (money not being a factortongue.gif)- an LSD from a 350z, Oil Cooler, twin pass rad, Brembos, Some decent aftermarket shocks, Upgraded MAF (from UPREV), boost control- manual, more dyno time, and I'm fighting the urge to build a forged VQ35 and max the turbo...blush.gif and a 350z rwd gearbox for da skidz

If you think your going to keep up to a VQ25DET you might want to add boooooooste........and build the f#$ker!nyaanyaa.gif....not in that order!

Yes you car is quicker to 20-30km's than a stock nm35 with a laggy turbo.......but what if you had of held it through third though instead of backing off like a panzy when you shifted to third and SAW me coming back....you remind me of Scott....his a panzy too!

I demand a rerace..........rolling start from 30km's! :P or race Andy!

P.S. Once I decide my injector size and get the e-manage back on lets have another from a standing start!

Edited by Jetwreck

But I thought you are running the almighty Nismo ECU Craig! :P

I am........it's a standard Nissan ECU from there motorsport dept .....run's the standard injectors, fuel map, rev's, boost, fuel, gearbox, max restrictions and whatever else I have missed.....looses speed retriction, some throttle restriction and add's a little timing........sounds stock to me!

Touched a nerve...? Glass bottom comments to come....?

nyaanyaa.gif

We'll just have to shoot them down the 1/4. Then we can compare numbers/traps. WSID coming up...?

Picked up a O2 sensor today- $171. Not bad for a wideband factory item, straight from Nissan. I would have I'd have to prepare the lube for this one. blink.gif Will chuck it in when I get a chance, and see whats going on with this closed loop business. BTW Nissan have changed their oil filters. New Part # is 15208-7M600- its a blue body, not made in Japan any more, I think its Thai. Still factory oil filter though.

Also want to do another Sydney Stagea meet up- what do people think. The one we had in Lane cove was a success, 15 or so cars, maybe we could go on a cruise this time? Thoughts? Northside to Palm Beach?

    • Hey guys, I have dipped my toes into the pool of skylines finally and figured I would get amongst the forums and make an introduction post! My name is Callum, I'm from the north side of Sydney, and I am now 6 months into owning my 1992 R32 GTS-T (already having half of that time off the road in true nissan fashion). It is originally an AH3 car but at some stage of its life it has been resprayed in and out in TH1 with (in the sellers words) extra purple, parked next to an actual TH1 car it is a fair bit lighter in colour. It has also had the original RB20 swapped out for an RB25DET NEO which I presume to be out of a Stagea going off the AWD sump that has been sealed up. I won't go super into detail with mods as I want to create a build thread post soon. Unfortunately the car seems to have had a hard life as many of these have being previously a cheap sub 10k car, and I have barely any history on it so if anyone happens to recognise the car or thinks they may have any history I would LOVE to hear it as I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to car history, the seller had it roughly since 2020 I believe and was from Parramatta area if that helps. Look forward to being a part of the community, I have been to 2 SAUNSW events already (one being in 2022 prior to ownership, and once more a few weekends ago) so you could say I am not brand new to it but can definitely be more involved via the forums! (side note: I am pretty new to forums and struggled to attach pictures of the car, is there an easier method than having to have the pictures on facebook and copying the link from there? would love to know for future reference cheers!)
    • I have GT2860R. I'm not sure if they are -5 or -7. Do you know? These are the exact ones.  https://www.enjukuracing.com/products/garrett-rb26dett-gruppe-n-turbo-upgrade.html?srsltid=AfmBOopSCzHaDtf7nggL6R8KrD8RJP4wxBJitmkRmswmv2SaEbAVcxTe And to be honest, i think the car was the most enjoyable to drive on the streets when it was 280hp (205kw). I could enjoy all the revs to redline i wouldn't be going crazy fast, but just fast enough to know that you are working the car.
    • If i used a cooling system pressure tester, would it show me a leak with the head gasket? Ive used one before to chase down a leaking coolant hose. Not sure if this will work on the oil-cooler warmer.
    • Hi all,   suspect this is a common problem. I think I missed 4th gear a bit when I shifted down from 5th. Now it grinds into 4th with the downshift. Is it the sychro and what do I need to replace when I open the gear box up?    added a photo of my new titanium intake I just installed and built. 👍💪
