hey all, my turbo is starting to get a bit of shaft play and puffs out smoke every now and then.

now my question is, is there a rebuild kit or core replacement?

i dont want a hi flow turbo, its cheaper to buy a new garrett than getting it high flowed anyways. so no interest

i want my turbo to stay stock. i dont mind getting a core with steel wheels either if that is an only option.

if anyone knows where to get one from or part numbers, i would greatly appreciate it.

i prefer not to buy a 2nd hand one, because the same thing will happen again sooner or later.

so recap, stock turbo rebuild kit. that is all

cheers

Jean

Don't know if there is a rebuild kit for stock turbo.

You're better off buy hi-flow or new Garrett turbo really. I know it isn't what you want but there is a reason for no rebuild kit for this sort of turbo (limited market I'd imagine).

ok, just a random update, ive found somebody who claim they offer new cores for the R34 turbos, with 360 thrust bearings or 270 bearings.

but on another side note, i just replaced my stock turbo with another stock turbo, both OP6 turbos, so from a neo engine.

the one turbo i got from a r34gtt had a black front compressor wheel and when i took the cover off, felt kind of like plastic, so i was thinking that flimsy plastic ceramic crap that people claim the turbos have.

NOW the interesting part, when i swapped for my other turbo, came off my "stock" stagea, i took the front housing off that turbo and to my surprise, its a steel wheel!

R34gtt turbo= plastic wheel, fins bend under a bit of pressure

Stagea neo turbo= steel wheel no flex what so ever when putting pressure on the fins

So my question is, where there any revisions in the op6 turbos? from ceramic to steel wheel??

the stagea turbo just had major shaft play from being over boosted accidentally, (17psi) that why the replacement.

both turbo wheels and dimensions are the exact same, no highflows or rebuilds!

im very confused.....

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers

    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
