Hey all,

I bought my cefiro about 3weeks ago. The bloke i bought it off installed the 20det motor himself from an R32. He said the temp gauge, rev tacho and window wipers all worked before the install and didnt after..

i just picked the car up from a mechanics who said it was the fact that the cluster is original from when it was non-turbo and signal sent from the turbo motor is different and the cluster cant read it properly. The temp gauge just goes straight up to 2/5 full and stays there and the rev tacho doesn't even flinch... He said if i get a cluster from a factory turbo ceffy it will fix the problem.. Same with the wipers, similar story but he said you could prob just get and auto elec to just re-wire it..

So im just after someone who has encountered the same problem and what they had to do to fix it, so i don't go wasting my money.

I'm thinkin of ringing some mechanics that do engine conversion on jap cars and ask if there've done many 20det conversions into ceffys and see if there've had similar problems and what do to fix it..

I've had a few mazda, previously but this is my first RB so im abit of a noob. Any help would be awesme.

Cheers jared

Hey champ, just put a r32 rb20det into my cefiro. You'll find the plugs that connect engine loom to body loom are different between r32 and cefiro. It's not the cluster, but where the wires go in the plugs. Basically need to identify tacho, temp gauge, wipers wires on cefiro plug, then identify on engine (r32) loom, join up. I was looking everywhere for the info, ended up getting a mate to help out. Can have a look and post the info up, prob on weekend. Where you at?

Hey mate,

Yeah sweet, some info would be bloody awesome. Sounds pretty simple, wish i was good with wires!!! hahaha

I'm in adelaide mate, western suburbs.

Thanks man, i knew someone on here would know what's happening.

Just out of curiosity, what ecu are you running?? Mine is running an A31 ecu with an 32 RB20 in it.

Also wanted to know if anyone has any pics they wouldnt mind posting up on where the ecu is installed. Cause mine is just lying on the passenger floor and i wanna know where it goes and which way it faces..??

Hope someonecan help. Cheers

It won't be the cluster at fault.

If you look at where the ECU is there should be a plug coming from under the dash board, you will need to find some wiring pinouts to identify the correct wires. Then you will find a plug coming off the ECU loom will have all the dash wires in it but the plug will be different shape. If you have the original cefiro loom you can chop the plug off and pop the wires in it, otherwise you will probably have to join them with solder or some other connectors.

As far as the ECU location, it is supposed to sit behind a plastic kick panel on the leftside of the passenger footwell.

Thanks for the reply, yeah i know now it def isnt the cluster... I may have to get some pics up cause where the ecu is their is about 4 other plugs not connected to anywhere. 1 or 2 of em im led to believe had to do with it being auto before... The others im not sure...

So you reckon i need to get the cluster out, check the wires that run to those gauge that dont work and then identify them at the loom end??
