Maybe get your cousin to buy the car, own it for a year then send it back.... Would be the best way to do it.

Hrmm now you got me thinking. Will check out the UK version of carsales for fun at lunch time.

Import a R35 for track purposes... now that's worth something to think about.

From the US? There's something better there such as Corvette Zr1, Camaro zl1, Mustang etc but they're compliable, only personal import if you can't comply here in Australia, otherwise its waste if time

UK ain't all it's cracked up to be. Their petrol is ridiculously expensive and enjoy your rego on anything with more than a 2 litre engine...then there's the ugly, fat and depressing lifestyle/weather.

Import from the states = $30k to do a proper conversion from LHD.

It's not as easy as it sounds; for every loophole you can think of around paying high prices for cars locally, it's all been thought of / done before. This is reflected in the prices of our local second hand market and the overseas import markets. It's the reason why you can go to Japan and buy a 1998 RX7 for $9k, whilst a 1999 RX7 will cost you $18k - the latter can be imported to Oz.

Buy a delivery km Mustang in Australia for ~70k-80k, the same car will cost you 35-40k in the US...add your RHD conversion, shipping etc. You might come out 5k better off after the hassle and risk involved in importing yourself.

Personal import is probably the only thing worth considering to save money, if you can pull it off...

I lol every time i see a Mustang or a Camaro... Apart from the fact that they aren't very good cars

Hey! I meant the new ones of course! I love the old muscles, and you don't need to convert them so of course it's worth while. Just not worth importing a car for $110k when it's ghey, they're just an American Commodore. C-o-m-m-o-n. As for the old schoolies they are super cheap in the US as well and I would definitely approve importing one.

Also the UK might not be that fun to drive in, tolls into the city are disastrous as well. It's more about popping over to France, down through Andorra to Spain or Switzerland to Italia. Mmmmmm Alps. Nom nom nom.

So a quick look on Piston heads shows:

08 M3 ~ 30K

04 Gallardo ~65K

07 911 Turbo ~ 50K

Today exchange rate = 0.63

So for say the 2007 911 Turbo ~$80,000.

I have no idea on the costs and hassles of importing from the UK but just putting it out there....

You have to use the car while you're there

You have to use the car while you're there

It would be registered but not driven... My sister doesn't drive and who wants to when you have the tube. Would be treated like a standard car except it wouldn't increas in km's.
