I think from memory Steve (White R33 GTR) won last year.

Yep he won last year.

I'm gunning for next years so I guess I've got lots of bribing to do tongue.gif

I reckon it should be passers by voting instead of members...

The day is more about reppin the club and a quality meet up...I don't think anyone's ride went unappreciated on the day.

Agreed, there should be someone on promo handing out flyers and voting cards to random peeps (as well as members being able to vote). The more votes and people hovering, the bigger and better the event. More exposure, more talk, more members.

Still, it's just trophies.... The day is more about reppin the club.

Disagree with this and the general attitude that the possibility of 'bribing'/popularity contest is ok.

If no cars show then there's no contest and no club. What would be best for repping the club is if one hundred cars showed up. That's never going to get even close if the contest isn't fair, doesn't matter how insignificant a reason. Personally if I still owned a Skyline I wouldn't bother usng up my time and petrol to enter and be locked into being there all day as the social side can be had else where. Although I would love to promote SAU, it's not my, or any of those drivers responsibilty, so this would not hold me there either.

Just my two cents. I think unfairness is a surefire way to eventually stunt (or even kill) a good thing.

what kills it is being forced to stay there for like 8 hours or whatever it is, never attended never would cos frankly i got better things to do with my time 2-3 hours sure can justify that be beyond that its really pushing it for me

Unless you do a secret ballot I can guarantee you'll never stamp out people voting for their friends cars.

I can also guarantee you that most of the people who entered on Sunday, entered to put their car on show, represent the club and socialise, with a trophy being absolutely secondary to it all. Trophies are like winning at DECA - good on you if you do, but DECA is about getting out there and having your own fun. And when you have a field of 26 cars on show, some classes only having 1 or 2 cars in them, your trophy doesn't really mean much.

I believe the opposite too - the more it's about trophies, the less people are likely to enter. Who would bother putting their stock R34 GTR up against Daniel or Chris' GTR? Look at all the people who say I'm not going to bother entering because my car isn't up to scratch for a show and shine...then you convince them to come because it's not just about winning a trophy, and they end up coming. We had a few track cars / cops there on Sunday, my hail damaged R33, Pat's in-need-of-a-roof-respray 32...

And it is definitely on members to promote any club. Most members joining and renewing, stay on because they know other people in the club...

LOL! hey.... "Pat's in-need-of-a-roof-respray 32" won a trophy!

Haha, you ain't seen no chapter writing yet. I'll take his chapter and raise him two :P

This is correct although it doesn't justify accepting the other extreme. I understand people vote for their friends cars and that's cool - it's what you do for a mate. Except if people are standing in a circle discussing and deciding who is going to win (like you said you were) then every year it will be a similar result and every year the people who are not in this group will have a useless vote as they are not the majority.

I did not say it should be more about trophies, only less political. Same topic but very different things. If the competition isn't fair then why bother having one? You'd do just as well parking the cars there all day only to look at, it wouldn't make a difference. And trust me, I definitely did not go for the cars. Actually I only went because of my girlfriend, the event conveniently tied in with what we were doing that day. All I'm saying is that it can be better without hurting what's already there.

It's a massive shame to come on the forums afterwards and see it as a usual thing for the competition to be 'rigged' and the stigma that goes with it. The fact that it is acknowledged as an every year occurance means that only few new people are attending, because if there were more then the political agenda would be lessened. I would have thought more new people would be a benefit?

And it is definitely on members to promote any club. Most members joining and renewing, stay on because they know other people in the club...

For sure, people promote anything and everything naturally when they socialise, but it's not our duty and certainly not our responsibility to promote it positively, therefore negative promotion can also occur. Also what is the use of promoting when the attendees at these events are all mates? Obviously the majority of promoting won't get very far, it will just circulate through the already aware. It's not hard to expand the horizons which would create more numbers.

Please understand Birds, I'm only going through this because I want the best for the club, that is all.

You keep attributing numbers to the competition of winning a trophy, I don't believe it's the case at all. You could have scrapped trophies, same amount of cars would have been there on Sunday. The competition is secondary to the show and shine, there's many more variables to it than that. It has more to do with starting times, lock in, location, weather etc. And that's all I'll say on this.

    • yeah I've never understood that either.... And to answer an earlier question, I write the date on open bottles and throw them if more than 12 months old (which they almost always are, because I don't need to bleed them unless I'm changing lines/calipers etc in between)
    • Nah, the one that hit the boot was a big steel locker, around 6 foot height, 4 foot wide and 2 foot deep, empty it weighs about 15kg and had about that amount of stuff in it The photo didn't give a good representation of the actual damage, the large ding on the passenger side was about a inch deep, the one on the driver was about 1/2 inch deep, right on the curve, where the inner boot frame doesn't let you get behind it with a dolly Basically the same issue with getting behind the damage on the centre of the boot We could have filled it all with bog, but my OCD would be triggered every time I looked at it, knowing what hides beneath  As for the locker, I did get the shits with it and put it in the scap metal bin, but, I pulled it out and it is now sitting in the garage at home full of car servicing stuff, cleaning gear and random tools, it's going to pay for it's indiscretions
    • Whilst I typically don't cheap out on things, if I can save some money, like $1000, on a clean straight panel, that gives me $1000 to spend on other stuff, basically free money really 🤔 🤣
    • Is the toolbox that damaged the boot seal the same item that fell on the car during the storm a while back?
    • Who are you to deny yourself? I’ve said this many times to myself and apart from getting what I really want, I go quiet for a while whilst working out what I just did to my savings and how will I afford what it cost, then, next payday…
